I don’t live in NYC so he’s not my mayor, but what he’s become for all of us is the de facto president of the better version of America struggling to be born (an office previously held by Bernie Sanders).

Not an ‘artsy’ person by nature. Tend to be the type of scientistic chud who says things like “Why watch that movie again? I already watched it once.” But Michael Burns has lured me into finding value in subjectivity, art, and art criticism. Been thinking about the vid for two weeks. Recommend!

Even accepting the premise that AI produces useful writing (which no one should), using AI in education is like using a forklift at the gym. The weights do not actually need to be moved from place to place. That is not the work. The work is what happens within you.

Will watch it tomorrow. The title reminds me of Richard Rorty’s take on the philosophers role as being a cultural critic rather than a metaphysician with insight into the truth™️ . (Although I know Rorty and other pragmatists are probably too normy for your tastes lol)

On her exam one of my students criticized Plato by saying a "room full of philosophers would be a very indecisive room" and I'm not sure whether I agree or not...

The problem with Austrian economics is eventually you run out of American money to spend...

NASA and Mamdani are proving that Americans are desperate to see their money spent in ways they feel good about. This, however, is not the same thing as simply spending the money on things we would feel good about but never know happened. People need to be able to see it.

I listened to the audiobook of the Parable of the Sower for the first time about a year ago. A modern classic for sure!

I’ll admit at the most basic entry level readings possible I enjoy philosophers from both the continental and analytic traditions

I wonder if @michaelburns.bsky.social has thoughts about his analytic counterparts he would like to share on stream open.substack.com/pub/jaredhen...

Random Kiekagaard hate by @mattpolprof.bsky.social in his most recent article lol 💀

• Much like
Kierkegaard's Christendom was a banalized version of Christianity that trivialized the message of Christ far more than honest atheism. Western Civ ™ is a banalization of the complex internal diversity and profound debates of a millennia-spanning culture. It reduces the tradition down to the tropes accepted by the golf course class.

Will the lecture be available online or just in person? I was homeschooled in a Christian Fundamentalist school and they always praised Sowell. So I’d be interested to understand his thought a little clearer.

(I say this because I still like the idea of having a long ballot where we elect most of the state leaders rather than having the governor appoint them)

000

Jon Ramirez @jram899.bsky.social · 27/02/2026

I think a fix to this would be to encourage multiple parties within Texas. That way people would at least have a more specific idea of what the people running for obscure positions represent

100

Jon Ramirez @jram899.bsky.social · 27/02/2026

This means that a primary ballot might include over 50 races. Most people simply don’t have the time to be informed about all of them!
