I've been sitting on this poem since April. Once in a blue moon, one will come together in a way that I'm genuinely satisfied with.

Text for a poem that reads:

the sin of empathy

you feel it, don't you?
the churning below of roots roiling displacing the dirt, a muffled groaning breaks ground to breathe free
grazing your cracked, dry soles
these tendrils teeming with the water of life

"It's just the rain," you whisper
daring to steal a glimpse on high
but the storm will make you see
in that dreadful flash you freeze
at a sea of faces seared to your vision cheeks carved in rivulets
from a tempest of tears, hot to your skin

"it's just the thunder," you mouth clasping slick hands to your ears
to keep your heart from swelling
from their outpouring of pain
dying screams and hopeless sobs vibrate the air all about you
and shake you to the core

The poem continues with this final stretch:

but I see your toes grip the fertile soil muscle and bone longing to stretch to the heavens to soak up their pain to grow, give relief, close the breach but you grit your teeth and stand rigid resolute to harden your heart of flesh
a firm foundation that sinks in sand

you rip up the vines mistaking them for weeds but what's really choking you?

This shows off the staff glowing and more lore for Jrain powers. He can only output raw electricity w/ the staff. Otherwise, his body converts it by default as raw energy for increasing his size—which he must carefully regulate! With focus, he can use it for healing or boosting physical performance.

One last version of the reference sheet above, which shows Jrain in his outfit glowing with biolum. The sheet also details aspects of his abilities related to electricity, which he can use to grow, heal, or boost his physical performance.
