Written in development and lost in ageing: the grammar of cellular identity - Nature
Ageing reflects progressive decanalization of mammalian cell identity, driven by erosion of a regulatory grammar written during development.

How can we inspire the next generation to recognise the importance of understanding and intervening in aging, and the potentially huge benefits this could have for human health? Students are back on campus @unibirmingham.bsky.social and today I delivered my first lectures of the academic year.

How far can science extend human lifespan? Always a pleasure to be back in my hometown of Porto to discuss the latest advances in ageing and longevity, and to highlight the huge potential of the field to extend lifespan and improve human health.

Another animal (sea cucumbers) reported to live over 100 years in the wild. We've barely scratched the surface when it comes to long-lived species. Imagine how much we would know about aging if we were to study in depth all the amazing long-lived species on Earth.

Fascinating study performing heart transplants between donor and recipient mice of different ages. According to epigenetic and transcriptomic clocks, transplanted organs then become younger or older depending on the age of the recipient mouse. No functional readouts in mice, though.

Wow, there's so much hype around longevity right now. It shows just how much interest there is in the field. Yet the best advice is still your mother's advice: eat well, move your body, don't smoke, sleep well. No need to pay a fortune to a longevity doctor to tell you that.
