JP Larocque @jplarocque.bsky.social · 15/09/2026The original The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) is an undisputed masterpiece, but its 2003 remake is everything a horror remake should be — reverent, but also its own terrifying thing. And the trailer had absolutely no right to go this hard. 120
JP Larocque @jplarocque.bsky.social · 13/09/2026Sometimes the cure for writer’s block is writing your way through it, and other times it’s discovering your co-worker at a crisis hotline is a notorious serial killer. 240
JP Larocque @jplarocque.bsky.social · 13/09/2026Nothing guarantees a piece of creative work gets elevated to the canon, and HP was always more about its moment than a true literary classic. I can say a lack of creative follow up and a toxic cult of personality nuking goodwill and neutralizing millennial nostalgia isn’t helping shore up a legacy. 110

JP Larocque @jplarocque.bsky.social · 02/09/2026The O.J. Simpson trial is an excellent example of two things being true at the same time. On one hand, the LAPD was notoriously racist and had shoddy police work. On the other, O.J. was so clearly guilty that it's astounding to look at the evidence and process that verdict. 150

JP Larocque @jplarocque.bsky.social · 02/08/2026I know hyperbole is part of the Hollywood box office press game, but this kinda shit is exactly why the industry is in crisis. You have historic turnout for a Marvel film, and the narrative immediately is: “The next one better do this well!” 131

JP Larocque @jplarocque.bsky.social · 27/07/2026When I came out, my best friends held a “Yay, You’re Gay!” party at their apartment in the Church-Wellesley village in Toronto. We blasted several stereotypical gay anthems and got in trouble for it, but the best part was the neighbors told the security guard the music “was amazing, just too loud.” 1130
