5 years ago I started gardening with #nativeplants and things have really matured over the years. Today is a bittersweet day for me as I moved out of my parents place (who will keep the yard as is) to Acton. My new apartment has a backyard abutting woods and a brook.. endless opportunities

Fall came quickly in Boston, thanks to the cool weather we’ve had

Winterberry Holly (Ilex verticillata). The berries are quickly ripening, as these were green just a week and a half ago. Behind the shrub there’s a few Cardinal Flower and Blue Lobelia that are starting to fade as the seasons turn. #nativeplants

White Snakeroot, New England Aster and Goldenrod are putting on a show. My yard might look green for most of late summer, but it pays off once the fall bloomers start. #nativeplants

Signs of autumn can be seen everywhere. The goldenrod and asters are starting to bloom. Some early foliage is beginning to show such as this red twig dogwood. The last of the cardinal flowers are finishing up, a sign for hummingbirds to begin migration. Winterberries are turning red. #nativeplants

A stalk of Swamp Aster stands out against a sea of Bluestem Goldenrod which is just starting to bud. Cooler temps and longer nights have accelerated the fall perennials into flower. #nativeplants

Ripening berries are a sure sign that autumn is on its way. Winterberry Holly, Virginia Creeper, and Black Chokeberry are still green but are enlarging by the day and will be ready to be consumed by migrating birds in a few weeks. #birds #nativeplants

A lot has changed in 5 years, the year I started gardening with #nativeplants. The birch tree out front went from an 18” tall sapling to a 25’ tree in no time. The lawn is almost gone, only a strip that I use for a pathway remains.

Cardinal Flower, Allegheny Monkeyflower, Boneset, and Jewelweed all in bloom in a marsh I’ve been restoring along the Charles River. After the peak of today’s heat, I have some purple loosestrife to pull before it goes to seed, but there isn’t much left after repeated pulling for 4 seasons.

This is a disgusting thing to publish in the wake of Louisa Gag's death. Yes, safety education is important for bicyclists. But Louisa is dead because of unsafe infrastructure and because of dangerous blind spots on trucks. Why does this piece not even mention steps the trucking industry could take?

@mayorwu.boston.gov @wutrain.bsky.social @streets.boston.gov There used to be flexposts turning from Arlington St to the bike lane beside the Public Garden. This is what happens when they're gone. A truck driver drove into the bike lane, and two drivers blindly followed. Please fix this.
