Jeremy @jp0610.bsky.social · 18hFoliage is really starting to turn here in Acton. I set up my bird feeders today and brought over some asters which I’ll plant along the jewelweed in this woodline behind my apartment 010
Jeremy @jp0610.bsky.social · 22hSome pictures I took of my family’s backyard over in Waltham. Asters and Goldenrod are in full swing. Today I took home a few seedlings to plant at my new place along the woodline. 030
Jeremy @jp0610.bsky.social · 22hAutumn is when all the mushrooms come to life. Although the spores and underground portion of the mushroom network is always there, many do not produce fruiting bodies until this time of year. 070
Jeremy @jp0610.bsky.social · 04/10/2026It’s a cool start to the day here in Acton. Perfect weather to sit outside with a cup of coffee and take in the view from my new backyard. The Red Maples are nearly at peak foliage 030
Jeremy @jp0610.bsky.social · 02/10/2026I’m looking forward to building a new home here for wildlife. My neighbors are already feeding the birds and the chipmunks have gotten used to me while I set up the patio furniture 020
Jeremy @jp0610.bsky.social · 02/10/20265 years ago I started gardening with #nativeplants and things have really matured over the years. Today is a bittersweet day for me as I moved out of my parents place (who will keep the yard as is) to Acton. My new apartment has a backyard abutting woods and a brook.. endless opportunities 140
Jeremy @jp0610.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Fall came quickly in Boston, thanks to the cool weather we’ve had 030
Jeremy @jp0610.bsky.social · 18/09/2026Winterberry Holly (Ilex verticillata). The berries are quickly ripening, as these were green just a week and a half ago. Behind the shrub there’s a few Cardinal Flower and Blue Lobelia that are starting to fade as the seasons turn. #nativeplants 040
Jeremy @jp0610.bsky.social · 18/09/2026White Snakeroot, New England Aster and Goldenrod are putting on a show. My yard might look green for most of late summer, but it pays off once the fall bloomers start. #nativeplants 070
Jeremy @jp0610.bsky.social · 16/09/2026New England Aster (Symphyotrichum novae angilae) #nativeplants #ecoregion59 0120
Jeremy @jp0610.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Some early fall foliage blew down today with the strong wind 020
Jeremy @jp0610.bsky.social · 06/09/2026It makes me wonder how old the original tree was before the blight occurred. Some of the sprouts may be coming off roots that are hundreds of years old 010
Jeremy @jp0610.bsky.social · 05/09/2026Signs of autumn can be seen everywhere. The goldenrod and asters are starting to bloom. Some early foliage is beginning to show such as this red twig dogwood. The last of the cardinal flowers are finishing up, a sign for hummingbirds to begin migration. Winterberries are turning red. #nativeplants 060
Jeremy @jp0610.bsky.social · 31/08/2026A stalk of Swamp Aster stands out against a sea of Bluestem Goldenrod which is just starting to bud. Cooler temps and longer nights have accelerated the fall perennials into flower. #nativeplants 050
Jeremy @jp0610.bsky.social · 27/08/2026The first Swamp Aster (Symphyotrichum puniceum) bloom of the season. Fall is almost here. #nativeplants 031
Jeremy @jp0610.bsky.social · 13/08/2026Most of the winterberry will last through December until less food becomes available. The catbirds have already eaten all the red twig dogwood berries. The rubus and blueberry season has passed, and there isn’t much else left for berries until these all ripen. 030
Jeremy @jp0610.bsky.social · 13/08/2026Ripening berries are a sure sign that autumn is on its way. Winterberry Holly, Virginia Creeper, and Black Chokeberry are still green but are enlarging by the day and will be ready to be consumed by migrating birds in a few weeks. #birds #nativeplants 170
Jeremy @jp0610.bsky.social · 13/08/2026A lot has changed in 5 years, the year I started gardening with #nativeplants. The birch tree out front went from an 18” tall sapling to a 25’ tree in no time. The lawn is almost gone, only a strip that I use for a pathway remains. 070
Jeremy @jp0610.bsky.social · 10/08/2026Cardinal Flower, Allegheny Monkeyflower, Boneset, and Jewelweed all in bloom in a marsh I’ve been restoring along the Charles River. After the peak of today’s heat, I have some purple loosestrife to pull before it goes to seed, but there isn’t much left after repeated pulling for 4 seasons. 070
Jeremy @jp0610.bsky.social · 10/08/2026Yeah, there’s a huge drop in density between concord and Brandeis station in Waltham. 010
Jeremy @jp0610.bsky.social · 10/08/2026Waltham city council voted to build thousands of units on the town line with Weston. They’re also working with the mbta to propose a 3rd commuter rail station in Waltham- which would eliminate Kendall Green in Weston. Don’t want density? Great, now you will lose your cr station. 140
Jeremy @jp0610.bsky.social · 06/08/2026Blue lobelia popped today. The cardinal flowers are in peak bloom. One of my favorite #nativeplants duos 390
Jeremy @jp0610.bsky.social · 06/08/2026Sounds of late summer. The katydids are so loud they are drowning out the crickets. 020

Jeremy @jp0610.bsky.social · 30/04/2026I left up one section of dead stems in the yard due to nesting doves. They are nesting again so I’m just going to leave that area untouched. The rest I trimmed, leaving 12-18” of standing dead stems. Will be interesting to see the results. 020
