haha I was waaaaay too into the wheel of time books back in high school, like many of the nerds I hung out with. and that was with only seven of the books written! I wanted nothing more than to run with the wolves

I internalized it back in high school german class as ”naw actually“ but I just suddenly realized that “no cap” probably also translates to doch

I love squad but it feels so exhausting to play, I have to be in a Mood and that only happens every couple of years now. been thinking about wardogs as a compromise between arma simulation and battlefield arcade-ness but meh. I feel like I'm getting too old for the grind

long ago when I took adderall I found it to be a good sleep aid. it wasn’t the best sleep, too much REM and not enough deep I think, but taking speed shouldn't do that! the mysteries of the ADHD brain…

UQM seemed pretty easy to mod... the .uqm packs are renamed zip files, and all the audio are ogg files, I think whatever files are present override the base game? (every few years I start randomly humming the hyperspace theme and go, fine, and download it and unzip it and play the music in VLC lol)

I go into it bravely with eyes open, with hydrocortisone cream ready for the aftermath. which stings like hell at first even worse than the burn, but then that fades and it helps me so much. I mean it's that or taking a half hour or more to shave my bits, I tell myself

I feel like Sex With Hitler started that 'lol get it, its offensive' Hitler trend a few years back, selling for $3 as a gag gift to pop up on a streamer's screen or whatever but nobody *actually* played it... and yet I wouldn't be surprised if this crap has a real following by this point

traditional asmr with the mic scratching or the wet smacking mouth noises is like nails on a chalkboard to me maybe what I've always needed is the clean sound of metal on metal or plastic, smooth mechanisms and clean, tight tolerances

josie @josietech.northsky.social · 30/08/2026

I’m reminded of the old 60s-70s Dominic Flandry stories by Poul Anderson. except.. they were really just a thinly-veiled metaphor for the Vietnam War, part of his Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire But In Space books (like Foundation). I’m sure there’s better versions of this out there lol

thinking back... I think I only smelled the saline flushes... but I want to say I could taste the ceftriaxone antibiotic briefly. bitter. that was an injection from a syringe by hand into the IV so it was a big bolus rather than a slow drip. my memory is a bit fuzzy from that time lol

140

josie @josietech.northsky.social · 28/08/2026

I don't remember weird tastes per se, but I remember smells from flushes in an IV and midline in the hospital, and I had a friend with a PICC at home that said the same. I read that certain volatiles will actually diffuse back out of the blood and into the nasal cavity, where they can be smelled

had too much caffeine late at night and I’m watching my heart blast out PVCs on my Apple Watch lol sinus rhythm my ass

A screenshot of an electrocardiogram in Apple Health. It claims “sinus rhythm” but shows two regular beats followed by a PVC (premature ventricular contraction). Don’t worry, they’re usually benign, and not uncommon with too much caffeine and stress. Feel weird, though.

I have this too, but it happened after my retina detached and had to be lasered back on - apparently each eye has a bunch of tiny light sensing organs that help calibrate the pupils (ipRGCs), and many of mine got zapped, so that pupil is always more open. you could just have an imbalance from birth?

truly, one of the lessons of real genius: if you work all the time you'll go crazy! or end up like kent

010

josie @josietech.northsky.social · 27/08/2026

also sometimes there are interesting exceptions, like Helldivers 2 works well on Linux despite its use of the hated nProtect GameGuard. Valve updates Proton, probably with help from the developers (?), to keep it running on Steam Deck. supposedly GameGuard just runs in userland, no kernel nastiness

years ago, I was most of the way through an online job application when I got to the question Who is John Galt? and I sighed and immediately closed the browser tab. I once, foolishly, thought of myself an Objectivist way back in high school, but that was a long time ago indeed

IT’S MY BIRTHDAY TODAY! ✨ if i could humbly request a share of my art, it would be the best gift ever 💖

a pixel art piece featuring a cloudscape at nighttime. the sky is filled with clouds of various colours: pink, yellow, cyan, blue and dark blue. a half moon is partly covered behind one of the blue clouds, reflecting its light onto them. the black sky is also filled with stars. the scene is meant to evoke a sense of peace, wonder and nostalgia

pixel art featuring a trail going off into the distance. the brown trail goes through a grassy field filled with flowers of various colours (yellow, pink, red and white). in the distance there are some green hills. the blue sky is filled with a giant white cloud, with some light coming from the top left. the text in the middle of the sky reads: “bloom at your own pace”

pixel art of space featuring a blue nebula surrounded by blue stars and a blue planet at the top right. a shooting star is also visible

pixel art featuring a sunset scene. the sun setting on some hills behind a body of water. the water is of a clear blue colour. the sky’s colours are red, purple and dark blue, while the hills are silhouette black. purple clouds make up the skyline

wandering in to an open source github issue with two developers sending pages of Claude at each other, and I'm like "+1 oh btw here's how the bug happens on my machine maybe it's like a config problem" and I feel like the guy in the boardroom meme who says something and gets thrown out the window
