New Paper! Monier et al. reveal scene- and object-selective regions exhibit convergent patterns of functional connectivity during encoding and retrieval of episodic memory, with age-related differences in scene-selective networks and their association with memory performance. doi.org/10.1093/cerc...

Today, for me, the Functional Neuroimaging of Memory lab became the Functional Neuroimaging of Memories lab. I've spent the last few weeks wrapping up my role as lab manager. I'll now be transitioning over to starting my PhD in psychology later this summer at the University of California, Riverside!

Headed to SfN? My group will be presenting new work on aging, memory, and immersive VR, including early Alzheimer’s markers, aphantasia, and a new VR tool for spatial behavior. Come check us out.

I'm thrilled that my first first-author paper in @fnim-lab.bsky.social is now out! We found that whole-brain cortical volume predicted the strength of neural reinstatement of scene information in the parahippocampal and medial place areas (PPA & MPA in the figure below). (1/2)
Scatter plots showing the strength and direction of any relationships between volume and reinstatement effects in the parahippocampal, medial, and occipital place areas.

Looking forward to representing @fnim-lab.bsky.social and presenting a poster at #SfN25, alongside several of my lab mates! Can't wait 😬

We had a fascinating conversation with Dr. Louis Renoult (@renoultlouis.bsky.social) about all things memory! Here’s a preview of what we discussed and stay tuned for the full release of the episode later this week!

New Paper Alert! de Chastelaine et al found that young adults are able to employ 'retrieval gating' to allow mnemonic content to be aligned with a retrieval goal, but older adults failed to do this even when their memory was boosted to match young adults! www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

A few months ago, Nature published how-to guide for using ChatGPT to write your peer reviews in 30 minutes. This is, of course, a horrible idea. Here’s my response with @jbakcoleman.bsky.social .

I designed and 3D printed a storage box for my triathlon bike! And it actually seems to work 😎 It’s orange, stretchy, and hopefully aerodynamic.

I made a personal portfolio/CV website! 👇 josholivier.com This is something I've wanted to do for a while now, both for fun and to get better at coding. But mostly for fun 😄

New preprint! We found that age differences in the neural reinstatement of scene information are fully mediated by whole-brain cortical volume. We also found that reinstatement strength in the parahippocampal place area was associated with memory performance independently of volume and age.

Excited to share our new paper in Neurobiology of Aging! Kidwai et al found that recollection-related fMRI effects in the entorhinal cortex were predictive of memory change over 3 years in healthy older adults, when controlling for age and entorhinal volume. doi.org/10.1016/j.ne...
