The last working ochre mine in the U.K, Clearwell Caves in the Forest of Dean, where colour has been mined for 4,500 years. A beautiful range is still mined & milled there: yellow ochre, red ochre (Terra Rosa d’Inghilterra), brown ochre, & rarer purple ochre, akin to ‘caput mortuum’.

Naast vondsten van glas een aardewerk hebben we ook een hele bijzondere collectie archeologisch textiel. Dit textiel is gevonden tijdens opgravingen in de grote Kerk van Alkmaar. De bovenste lagen met begravingen bevatten nog heel veel kledingstukken. Als eerste de kazuifel van een pastoor

Two finely crafted bone combs from the early 6th c. AD, found in a grave at Dittigheim. To protect their delicate tines, they were carefully kept in a custom-made case. In the Early Middle Ages, long, well-groomed hair was more than a fashion choice, it was a symbol of status and identity. 1/2 📷me
