🪨👀It's interesting to make comparisons for the same period but in different parts of Britain. #Wirral has no naturally occuring flint sources, just glacial pebbles. However, people were resouceful here's a #Neolithic stone awl 49x29mm comparable to that of flint found by @durotrigesdig.bsky.social

It's the summer solstice and the longest day of the year! The prehistoric megalith Stonehenge was designed to align with the sun on the solstices. On the summer solstice, the sun rises behind the Heel Stone and its first rays shine into the centre of Stonehenge.

🪨Greasby the oldest settlement in the region. Discovered in 1987 along with Irby, excavated 1987-92 by Museum of Liverpool, both dated from lithics alone to 7,800 BC. Subsequently Greasby dated in 2018 from burnt hazlenut shells to 8,500 BC. #ThrowbackThursday #Archaeology #Wirral #Mesolithic
