Meta pledging to give free pervert glasses to blind veterans is pure, cold blooded manipulation. Using blind vets to rehab their reputation. How can you be against AI glasses? Why do you hate veterans? Crudely done. Burn it all down.

Independent presses need readers. They also need rooms where writers can experiment, learn, argue, laugh and make new work. That's what we're trying to rebuild. If you want more from The Broken Spine, attending this workshop genuinely helps us make more possible. shorturl.at/IZ5TX
Cream, distressed collage-style workshop poster. Large burgundy text reads “The Poetry of Cultural Debris”, followed by “A Writing Workshop with Alan Parry”. Torn-paper imagery spills across the design, including a cassette tape, vinyl record, microphone, keyboard, retro television, joystick, football, typewriter, wrestling ring, handwritten letter, lips and other fragments of pop culture and memory. The Broken Spine logo appears in the upper right.

I love narrative poetry. Big Fan. There needs to be a lot more of it. Probably the most common one, but the Raven is my absolute favorite. Tam Lin a close second. Canterbury Tales, Poetic Eddas, Epic of Gilgamesh! Not surprising I'm a big fan of narrative music as well. Tell a story and I'm hooked.

#Poetry #Prompts #OddChallenge #60OddPoems My entry. A tasty mead base one can build so much more on.
A Classy Session Mead 1/3

_Ingredients_

One pound of honey to the gallon — that is,
ten thousand small commutes, ten thousand
returns to a house that was never theirs;
gold moved up, frame by frame,
until it answers to a name that never flew.

Water. Rain, or the river,
or the pipe the town paid for twice.

One packet of the dry and sleeping many.

A spoon of something dead to feed the living.
A Classy Session Mead

_Ingredients_

One pound of honey to the gallon — that is,
ten thousand small commutes, ten thousand
returns to a house that was never theirs;
gold moved up, frame by frame,
until it answers to a name that never flew.

Water. Rain, or the river,
or the pipe the town paid for twice.

One packet of the dry and sleeping many.

A spoon of something dead to feed the living.
A Classy Session Mead 2/3

_Method_

Do not boil. Heat takes the meadow out of it;
what you scald you cannot call back.

Stir until the thick gives up its seam
and the sweet forgets it was a hoard.

Pitch the small ones in. They do not ask
what it is for. They wake, they find the sugar,
they find each other, they begin.

Then dark. Then the airlock's patient knock —
one soft knock, one, one, one —
which is not a clock. A clock counts down.
This counts up.A Classy Session Mead 3/3

Nobody works alone in there.
Nobody is named in there.
The warmth you feel through the glass
is only the sum of them.

When the knocking stops, rack it off.
Look at the floor of the jar. That pale silt
is the ones who made it. Every glass you have raised
was built on that and poured off of it.

Bottle it low. Four percent. _Session:_
strong enough for talking, weak enough for hours.
Not the bottle that drops one man in a corner —
the jar that keeps a table lit past midnight .

The weather today in Barking Waters, Great Plains is weirdly eldritch. Fog thick enough to swim through with a suffocating humidity that makes breathing a struggle. Simply bonkers. Phone cams can't capture mist and fog well. This is thick, 4 feet in front of me.
A picture of a backyard leading off into a field. Lush verdant vegetation. A thick fog clouds the scene.

Knowing a heat wave was coming on, I made 2qts of raspberry shrub on Sunday and just racked it today. Delicious in seltzer or ginger (ale or beer) 1:7. Excellent hydrator and easy to make. 1:1:.25-1 of vinegar, muddled fruit and sweetner (to taste). 3 days in fridge, then strain and rack for mixing.
