Possible Forms — Spatial note-taking for networked thought
A simple (but deep) means of getting thoughts down as text, linking them, and moving them around to form meaning.

Hoping the bad online vibes around the Switch 2 don't rock the boat too much. I'm still thankful we have a Nintendo that is still in the hardware game after dancing so close to the edge with the Wii U and gambling everything on the original Switch.

If it's a 4th wall joke that they tried to get someone that approximates a Leslie Nielsen and they cast Liam Neeson, that in itself is comedy gold.

There are “Esperanto” ideas, proposals which sound great, but are complex and impractical, and so they never take off. There also are “tweet” ideas, trivial things which don’t seem to do much at all, but are simple and appealing to everyone, and so they spread everywhere.

Kinda depressing to see so many replies on X which consist of "Grok, is this real?", "Grok, explain this", "Grok, what is this?" Readily offloading thinking in public probably isn't a good skill.

I'm so late to the game with this one. After struggling a bit reading from the primary source, Jung's work is coming through crystal clear in this book.

@ptujec.bsky.social Hey Christian - thank you so much for all of the work you do in terms of adding new actions to Launchbar. I love the new Menus action - quick question: is there any way for the items to be accessible from the root search? eg pressing Cmd+Space and CT for Close Tab in Safari? Thx!

Hopefully this helps some people. I think I've been misunderstanding *every* meditation practice that uses attention to move into *now*. (Disclaimer: I might still be wrong, but right in a placebo sense) jordanm.co.uk/2025/02/22/m...

Update: went a bit crazy here, got an M4 iPad Pro and a MIDI controller. I'm addicted to this stuff. My fallback excuse was "it'll make a nice work computer if I don't get along with music creation" but the touch interface for tweaking + physical dials and keys is a lovely balance.

Trying to enter the music creation world from very humble beginnings - I have a Pocket Operator KO 33 (which I love dearly), but I'm in the market for making music and I want to build a nice setup without breaking the bank (just in case I'm really, really bad at it). Any recommendations?

Emerging from this - really strange but great thing happened once the depersonalisation subsided, I felt more detached from my current idea of self (running a business, and the stresses of) and seemed to reassemble a sense of "true" self akin to my late teens. Felt like I met an old friend again.

Whatever this cold/flu/virus thing is that is knocking about, it's grim. I know I'm a bit of a precious flower but so far it has been: 2x nights of fever dreams 1.5x days of a real depersonalised feeling Not nice.

Endtroducing... by DJ Shadow was today's daily album. It's one of those ones I just don't understand the degree of outsized acclaim that it gets. I know it's clever sampling, but for me, Paul's Boutique (in a similarish vein) is much more impressive.

This man has his gratitude levels perfectly adjusted. My ultimate old man goal is to get to this level where hedonic adaptation has been unwound back to child-like wonder. (If it's even possible)

I'm on a strange binge of collecting up Mac-assed apps and I'm stuck trying to find a satisfying code editor. I'm a Nova user but I feel like it's a bit over-the-top and it gets away from the simplicity, and stubbornness-as-a-feature that seems typical of Mac-assed apps. Any recommendations?

Whoa, just spotted a huge streak across the sky. The Geminids are starting the light show early! Apparently there should be approx 13 meteors per hour at its peak which is 3-5 hours away.

You are what you read. Notice how inputs affect your baseline mood. — News cycles of elections, wars, tragedy will change you from within by imposing on or asking an opinion of you. — Notice this from when you wake in the morning. Choose birdsong and sunrise as an input before a single screen...

I'm aware this sounds a bit "well, duh" - but most of the best parts of my nostalgia stretch back about 20 years. This realisation (quoted) is that you can have THAT for NOW.

Jordan Moore 🕊️ @jordanm.co.uk · 08/12/2024
You can't have the sweet parts of nostalgia (love, gratitude, warm feelings etc) without reflecting on something... Nostalgia requires the crystallising of something to be nostalgic. So in a sense, you can have nostalgia (full of love, gratitude) for TODAY with _deliberate reflection_ on your day.

I had no master plan to quit my job. Even now, several years after doing so, when people ask about my journey, I’m more confused than you might expect. It’s tempting to tell a simple story. People want to hear about bold acts of courage, not years of feeling lost. pmillerd.com/pebble

Wrapping up my first week of using Taskpaper from @jessegrosjean.bsky.social. As a Bike user (incredible writing app also from Jesse), I knew Taskpaper was going to be well made, and just as wonderfully Mac-assed. It's an absolute joy to use.

This caught my attention when watching an MTV throwback to Madonna and William Orbit recording Ray of Light (I'm an Orbit-obsessive). It looks like they storyboard their tracks 🤯 I need to figure out what that "— FRENZY —" section is all about.

Exactly this. The real life equivalent is the people you choose to surround yourself with and their influence on your outlook. If you were to hang around with IRL people who argue with others all the time and are generally negative, you'd soon have people saying you're hanging with a bad crowd.

Very chess-like so far in this game (Arsenal vs United). Amorim has us set up nicely defensively against an Arsenal side who are very dangerous in attack. Looks like we'll get them to half time without a shot on goal. We're lacking a lot of creativity though. I'm yet to see Mount fit in this side.

My favourite toys of the year. The Pocket Operator was a massive influence over my digital minimalism drive for the first half of the year (I'm now off the wagon but want to get back on for the holiday season). Both tools are fun in their own way.

I deeply appreciate that I got to follow Blur in the 90's, watch their sound evolve into experimental places that got overlooked by the general public, and experience an entirely different project in Gorillaz, and that Damon Albarn is still making great music in 2024 www.youtube.com/watch?v=hp01...

Old me used to find this depressing, current me thinks it's the polar opposite When you know this might be your final few hours and minutes with these people, and when they're joyful and in good health, you soak up every minute with thanks that you have this time with them before the party is over

I have the dumbest feature request for the @bsky.app team: I would love the Bluesky equivalent of Winamp skins for the UI. It would serve no other functional purpose other than it would be cool to look at and stuff.

Added some additional graphics to my horizontal blog. It's the most cumbersome, restrictive format, along with my recent change-up to comic book imagery restricts things further... yet I can't bring myself to scrap it for something that would make publishing a lot easier.

“Oftentimes, when trying to reinvent the wheel, you end up with a wheel. But there is a nice moment of ‘huh, I guess that’s why people just use wheels’… that process of justifying the standard is satisfying, if massively wasteful. Still. Cool wheel.” — Mike Bithell

I hope the dataset guy is ok. He has no (as far as I'm aware) prior form to using data for ill intent whereas an entity like a Google, Meta et al, has prior form. I dunno, just feels wrong - he's getting Google conglomerate-level pushback on something that appears to have been made hobby-level.

Treeverse.app now shows the conversation thread as you mouse around. Nice way to navigate deep threaded conversations on here. It doesn't have a way to load more than what the initial API call returns, yet. Other than that, I think it's now at parity with the old Twitter version.

My daughter found my old iPhone 3GS box and couldn't wrap her head around the icons... "Look at the YouTube one, it's SO much better!" ... "WOW, look at the compass app! Why did they change it?" She then went off to Google some old app interfaces 🥲❤️
