PAC's look always made me imagine an episode of Flight of the Concords where he played the former third member who got kicked out years back and returned to challenge them to a fight. They're overconfident cause he was always notoriously weedy, then PAC takes off his shirt.

I'd also forgotten how gay it is, in ways that one is tempted to read as unintentional until you realise Le Carre was working for MI5/6 during the time of the Lavender Scare and it's inspired by the Cambridge 5. It knows what it's doing. (Also Smiley's marriage reads quite differently in that light)

A mock-up of two side-by-side hardback books. On the left is the book with a dust jacket on, featuring a green coloured illustration of a man with wings strapped to his arms on a black background. He is upside down on the book cover, as if he is falling. The pages of the book have sprayed edges, featuring the same illustration of the winged man. On the right is the same book without the dust jacket, which features an illustration in silver foil of a library checkout card with various books being taken out of the library by different people. An arrow pointing to the book on the right reads “Silver foil under dust jacket.”. Text on the image reads: “Waterstones Exclusive Edition: Pre-order now.”

#booksky 💙📚 Fantastic take on a monster here! This found-family mystery turned action-horror will absolutely keep you on the edge of your seat. What I loved most about this page-turner was the threat of a monster attack bringing together this otherwise unconnected group in such a fabulous way.

So, it started when I saw Frank watching Jujutsu Kaisen and it was about this group of X-Men who get their mutant powers from "curse energy". Then they just started watching Tokyo Ghoul, where this group of X-Men are called "ghouls" rather than mutants.

Learning about Shounen anime from @frankentine.bsky.social and it sounds like every shonen anime is actually just the X-Men? But they all have different names for their unique superpowers and call them something other than mutants? Am I right about this? Have I successfully learned the Shounen jump?

Delightful review, and very generous in the depth it ascribes to the fairly blunt politics of the book :p
