Very grateful to @lobb66.bsky.social and @liamlangley1.bsky.social for sharing their patch with us for an enjoyable seawatching session from St Ives Head this morning. The rest of the day was a little more relaxed for us, with a walk at Zennor and lunch in The Tinners Arms. #UKBirding #CornwallBirds

After an enjoyable but unproductive morning seawatching at Porthgwarra, we went to check out the incredible Minack Theatre. Refueled on cream tea we headed to explore the idyllic Penberth valley in search of migrants. Firecrests stole the show in the end, with 4 birds seen! #UKBirding #CornwallBirds

After a relaxed morning at Marazion Marsh, we headed to Drift Reservoir in search of our first lifer of the trip - the juvenile Spotted Sandpiper. A bonus Black Tern flew in briefly too. Then off to Hayle estuary for high tide, and a few pints at the Star Inn to celebrate! #UKBirding #CornwallBirds

Stopped off for some top-tier lay-by birding at Chew Valley Lake today whilst en route to Cornwall. The cracking juvenile Lesser Yellowlegs was the highlight. Also Garganey, 5 Spoonbill, 5 Green Sandpiper, 10+ Great Egret, 4 Ruff, 6 Snipe, Marsh Harrier and Water Rail. What a great spot! #UKBirding

An impromptu dash out before tea for a local Hoopoe tonight! After thinking that we'd narrowly missed it, the bird kindly reappeared and fed briefly in the last light before going to roost in the tree beside us. Great to share this brilliant bird with others too. #birdingwales #ukbirding

This smart Spotted Redshank was the highlight of another post-work wander. Fascinating to watch it chasing sticklebacks in the shallows, rather than sleuthing or probing the mud. Also 186 Redshank, 110 Curlew, 2 Whimbrel, 17 Dunlin, 6 Blackwit, 3 Barwit and 3 Swift. #BirdingWales #UKBirding #PWC2026

I had a few hours to kill after work before tonight's Bat Walk, so I finally popped up the Great Orme to see the Dotterel. Great to study the difference in plumage to the 3 adults that we saw up on Iona back in May. #BirdingWales #UKBirding

Whilst down for the LT Shrike, we headed to Prestbury Hill Reserve. A fantastic @savebutterflies.bsky.social site with 18 species of #butterflies seen including plenty of shimmering Chalkhill Blue in the midday heat. Also several Clouded Yellow, Brimstone, Brown Argus, DG Fritillary & WL Hairstreak.

We finally surrendered to the lure of the Long-tailed Shrike and headed down to Gloucestershire today. It put on a great show, actively feeding on the abundance of insects in the afternoon haze. Whinchat, Grey Partridge, Yellowhammer and Clouded Yellow the supporting cast. #UKBirding #UKRareBirds

What a day at work! 🤯 After disappearing for a few days, the Western Reef Heron showed up at RSPB Conwy on the high tide. An unbeatable patch tick! Fantastic to see so many people enjoying the reserve, and good to catch up with the locals as always too. #ukbirding #birdingwales #ukrarebirds #PWC26

Still coming back down to earth after our recent Hebridean adventure. We ended the trip last weekend with another splendid @sealifeuk.bsky.social Mull boat trip from Tobermory. Drifting in perfect conditions, surrounded by a pod of Common Dolphin, Gannet, Manxies, auks and the odd Minke. Pure bliss.

Lots of freshly emerged Common Blue #butterflies out today. This pair were busy copulating, with their abdomens joined as the male (left) transfers his spermatophore into the female's reproductive tract. She will use this sperm to fertilise her eggs as she lays them. #bugsky #invertebrates #insects

Enjoyed a successful and rather stunning sunrise at a local roadside Black Grouse lek this morning. 7 males strutted their stuff as the fog lifted. Plenty of Red Grouse squabbling too. Then a celebratory fry up and great views of Willow Tit. Definitely worth the early rise! #birdingwales #ukbirding

Da iawn @marcbuzzard.bsky.social for finally getting some photos of this cracking bird! It has managed to evade cameras since it was first seen here in September 2025. I was lucky enough to enjoy great views of it myself yesterday morning. What a stunner! 😍🔥 #PWC2026

Bit of a Shore Lark smash and grab up the Great Orme this morning! Dashed out of work when the bird had been relocated and arrived to see it showing well on the cliff edge.
