Jon Connorton @jonconnorton.com · 3hI used to live in the EU, am naturalising and think Brexit was an act of colossal self-harm. The FBPErs and their casual racism coupled with a desire to see Britain punished harder drive me nuts. 160
Jon Connorton @jonconnorton.com · 7hThey fold in to each other, don't they? Like, if you look at something like Kohima, both IJA and British and Indian armies had motivation and spirit, but the RAF and USAAF supplying crucial arms and food was a big contributor to Britain and India keeping their morale up whilst Japan disintegrated. 020
Jon Connorton @jonconnorton.com · 10hI was only about an hour late, but when I got on I was told that the restaurant was shut as someone had booked it for a party so no breakfast either. Then got no sleep at all as people were being loud and drunk in the corridors outside our room until about 5AM. 110

Jon Connorton @jonconnorton.com · 30/09/2026I went to the reopened Simpsons-in-the-Strand and had an outstanding meal from a chef who really understood savoury so well. But it wan't super-spicy, so a lot of people unfortunately write it off. Had some great swordfish in NY recently too, that was a fr cry from fast food US is known for. 210

Jon Connorton @jonconnorton.com · 30/09/2026In my experience, US and British food are both incredible at their best and unbelievably diverse, but really bad at their worst. For some reason, the food discourse people don’t do the nuance. Probably because there’s a lot of money to be made on other social media by creating ragebait. 250
Jon Connorton @jonconnorton.com · 30/09/2026Yeah, I think it's about six grand London to Geneva. But if BA's Club Europe is £900-£1000 pp for that flight, then PJs aren't horrific for a family in that sector. (I'm just a pauper who pays in Avios, though, so well beyond me). 000
Jon Connorton @jonconnorton.com · 30/09/2026Well, yes. You replied to my skeet about how much better transatlantic flying is these days. Although I probably didn't help talking about Singapore First Class. As for short-haul, if you're willing to spend a grand or two, some of the smaller charter airlines are extremely nice. 100
Jon Connorton @jonconnorton.com · 30/09/2026True. And if you are a transatlantic flyer, Global Entry and TSA Pre makes getting through that side a doddle. 010
Jon Connorton @jonconnorton.com · 30/09/2026Go Singapore Suite or Emirates First or even BA’s Club Suite and you will have a much nicer experience than forty years ago. 100
Jon Connorton @jonconnorton.com · 30/09/2026I remember going to a talk on the challenges airlines face, and one speaker pointed out that a return from London to New York in 1985 was about £500 in economy, which is pretty much what it costs today. Dislike flight nostalgia people. Everything to do with flying is better now (except security) 240
