Yeah Google has been the wrong side of the line for far too many years now it’s been years since Google has been my default search or Chrome my default browser

I just have it as the default on everything. If I do need to use google I can just type that in to the url bar to go there instead

Local is now 200.9 for diesel but the sign refresh rate doesn’t play well with cameras

Yes was utterly flabbergasted the other week when fuel in Bakewell was 7p a litre cheaper than in Chesterfield, rather than the usual 10p more expensive. Annoyingly first time I passed had a near full tank at town prices. Didn't make the same mistake the following week...

Mine doesn’t “need” supers, but I keep telling myself it does enough extra per gallon if it’s only 10p extra it offsets the cost, and I’ve run it so long on supers now it can be a bit lumpy out of corners in second when you have the indignation to put supermarket 95 in

There’s one on the road to Bridlington that does the same, £1.25 for unleaded (when it’s £1.35 for unleaded in Chesterfield), pulls in, supers £1.90, pulls straight back out again

Jon Bradbury @jonbradbury.com · 28/09/2026
This is where I splash n dash. Petrol station at end of cat n fiddle charges something like 70p extra for super unleaded. I put in 5 litres in to get me off fumes, not paying these bloody rates for a full tank

I call back a lot of people squeezing in a 1/2hr dog walk between meetings

All that seems to encourage is 45min videos where you’re constantly skipping utterly boring bits. 10mins of timelapse interstate driving when they go to collect something skip skip and who else has uploaded this week instead…

Nothing at all to do with lower tax rates & bonus sunshine

Yeah I’m running a 13” M1 Pro 16GB. The 2019 imac got dumped for a 32” 4k display for the a MacBook. I’d like a 16GB+ 14” Pro to replace it at some point, but mainly for the freedom of the 3rd USB-C port

Used exactly this this week because power button on remote wasn’t working. Tracked it down to a button not batteries via the iPhone. Stripped it down, cleaned the carbon switches, all working

Once you've been to the top of Snowdon with a cafe, fresh hot chocolate & a cake it becomes expected for your expeditions. And then you haven't got the indignity of having to walk down either, you just hop on the train...

No, I don’t recall any big steps at that stage. Just enjoy that one then, and pay for it before they change their minds

Passed an age or NCD milestone this year? First renewal at 26 did something similar

That and numbers? Maybe there’s something old somewhere causing an issue. Mainly reports I’ve seen/experienced is it’s been as stable as 15/26

No usually rock solid, though not seen any issues with it here yet 🤞🐐

Yeah spark plug bill at the last service was more than I used to pay for a full service on cars 1-3, though that may also be just down to much time passing.

Yeah I’d imagine the prolonged high pressure and heat helped them migrate a bit. I was impressed enough with spotting bee flies a year or three ago, another tricky bugger to get
010
Jon Bradbury @jonbradbury.com · 21/09/2026
And there’s the other bit. Yeah it’s ok but the tax, the fuel costs, the £3000 bills last year ALL my fuel, not just the additional costs over something that does 40mpg, ALL of it, and the tax, and the servicing etc It all adds up to less than your “cheaper to run” Golfs depreciation alone…

Yeah 96, teenage me was asked find me a 92 Vauxhall Cavalier a bit like yours for £5000 I went ooo look a 944 for £5000, and lo a month later we had an 87 924S with 50k on the clock And yeah everyone suddenly thinks you’re paid too much

Jon Bradbury @jonbradbury.com · 21/09/2026
Number of times told ”wish I could afford your car” They’re £5000, you’re driving a £20,000 Golf. You could have afforded one of these AND a slightly older Golf…

Great captures. Seen them for the first time this year at home, twice, for about half a nano-second each before sodding off. The camera didn’t even get out of the bag close

Gambling gambling more gambling are typical in the UK. My Mrs says I’m getting cranky as I’m pretty much muting the adverts all the time. Our Netflix is an advert tier, but less annoyed by that as took it out as the cheaper option. We‘d be pissed if we’re on an ad-free tier that added adverts back

Though one could say they’ve always done this, from movie theatres to vhs/dvd purchases/rentals. Here’s 10minutes of un-skippable adverts ( and a don’t pirate section using a pirated font over here…) before you get your actual content

The current pads are that dusty in the BM it's tempting to get the wheels refurbed very dark grey...

Yep if I didn’t need to also have the ability to shift a bit more stuff Boxster/Cayman would he pretty much top of the list. Practical, fun, not that high up on the how stupid are the running costs

I know it’s not a Porsche but it still throws some nasty bills, and sometimes I gripe on those on the BM And then even before the roofs down, the 6 pot, the shove, it takes about 150 yards from the garage and all is forgiven

I’m confident enough in my tennis ability that if you added another 30 years to a Williams sisters age, subtracted 20 from mine, one of them would still utterly thrash me

Xr3/xr3i was all the car we ever wanted as teenagers. Finally drove a friends mk4 back to back with the Golf, ye gods the Escort was awful. Nicer interior/toys but horrid to drive

Yep, as ever ex British billionaires feeding **** to influence the gullible, not for the benefit of the gullible, but because they're hoping another party gives them (the billionaires) a more favourable tax position.

I always say “cheap, until the day you need an emergency stop, and the premium brand stop you 4’ short In an alternate reality the version of you that bought Cheap Triangle tyres had an accident, at best is paying a not so cheap £400 excess, increased insurance plus all the other costs…”

I think today’s big issue isn’t so much the massive bhps, big big turbo gains are being used to hide lazy engineering that means they’re covering up the massive weight gains, instead of doing good packaging/weight management with smaller outputs

They were utterly fabulous to move around. The weighting on the arm was perfect. Àlso the first computer I’ve known to cause every single person in the office to come look at it (and this was an office full of non computer types)

Yep the small print on the Nationwide adverts is something like 2029, or it was. I mean I get it, it's difficult for the banks, the vast majority do a ton of business with them and there's very few reasons to actually step in branch nowadays

Would that be Santander? They like these "we won't shut anything before then" emails, when a bit of simple thinking goes 'yeah, that's only 15 months mate'

Cheers. Yeah as @7forwardgears.bsky.social says if you can regain access to any of the accounts. Remove and start afresh with any 2FA so you know any of those are yours. Health check on the Mac. Passkeys, ID weak password etc etc Also ensure primary email is secure as that password resets 99% A/Cs

Actually, looking, it's at the bottom in 26, it used to be at the top previously. I think in the end we just get used to it, even the stupid stuff

It just takes the usual bloke in the corner of the pub when you buy something nice shitting on your purchase. But YT subs as you say lets them buy the cheapest one, and dump on them from on high Of course it blew up, when was it last serviced? When was the cam belt done?

Sounds on the expensive side, but yeah do get just how much a family can save if they don’t need multiple cars. Years ago even just cutting the commute from 5 miles to 1 mile cut the monthly costs on the car significantly
