I’m in the wilds of Indonesia on holidays, but Simona’s paper on metastable cage catalysis has just been published! Almost everything done by amazing Simona, wth many collabs, incl Paul Lusby. doi.org/10.1002/anie...

Catalysis by a Metastable Photoswitchable Cage
A self-assembled heteroleptic cage is formed by isomerizing a photoswitchable ligand to its metastable Z-isomeric form (Z-1) using green light and combining with a non-switchable ligand (2) and palla...

Remember these guys? I tested one bottle two months ago and it was ~49% "pure". I thought that it was one-batch failure, but I was wrong. I bought second bottle myself in Calgary and tested by PXRD + TGA. Nope, apparently they have a systematic problem with quality. 1/x #chemsky #chemchat

ARC has published (inadvertently?) how many Future Fellowships & DECRAs they’ll fund (FT26 & DE27). Even though outcomes aren't out yet, these numbers & success rates are here ▶️ www.arc.gov.au/ncgp-trends-... 299 FT26s & 455 DE27s "funded". Success rate of 20% for both schemes.
Various graphs and statistics are shown in an infographic style. We’ve also been thinking about this a lot in recent years. Even “well mixed” solutions are really very heterogeneous, even though we synthetic chemists don’t like to admit it, and it can change reaction outcomes…. #ChemSky

Everybody knows that LLMs suck in most science-related stuff. But maybe the are good in something that is Large (6000 entries) and Language (mostly)? Because they are Large Language Models. Let's try few of them on mineral names, with great detailed databases (created by humans). #minerals 🧵1/n

This is an excellent illustration of how useless the "Impact Factor" metric is. The most influential multidisciplinary chem journals are JACS and Angewandte. They did not make the list. In this short ad hoc 🧵 I will analyze in real time what made the list and why. I have a bad feeling about this.

The Story of Samuel L Jackson
In 2016 I was watching an episode of the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. One of the guests on the show was Samuel L. Jackson, and as he made his entrance he struck a pose where he made a letter "L" with one of his hands before bringing it up to his chin. I thought "Well I guess his enantiomer would have to make a "D" with his hands.".
