When you’re tired from a busy weekend, but you don’t want to break your #writing streak, so you write a few words and your character too starts to feel how you feel.

Just finished reading @janefriedman.com ‘s The Business of Being a Writer (2nd Edition). One of the best non-craft books on #writing I’ve read! Definitely recommend to anyone trying to expand their business or readership.

Been making lots of changes to my #author website lately, the biggest of which is *finally* getting a proper homepage. It's no masterpiece, but it's better than what it used to be! #writing

I am not a graphic designer, but I’ve always thought it’d be cool to create at least “passable” art for my free stories. Been playing around with Canva & it’s free assets on my phone. It’s not good, but the best way to learn is to get comfortable 1st before trying to get good. One step at a time🚶‍♂️

This book was the motivation & guidance I needed to finally update my author bio on my website. From one tongue in cheek paragraph to something with actual detail & multiple paragraphs! 😮 #writing #authorlife #bio jonathankwebb.com/about/

Just started reading The Business of Being a Writer by @janefriedman.com, and I can already tell that this is going to be one of my favorite books on #writing. So many good pieces of advice that I’m having to hold back underlining every sentence 😆 Highly recommend to my fellow #authors out there.

#writers, what are we reading this week? Currently reading through In Ascension by Martin MacInnes over here. Love myself some moody atmospheric storytelling.

Honestly did not expect this to grow as much as it has. It was supposed to be a jokey sequel to a jokey piece of flash fiction I wrote years ago about a witch responding to review on Yelp. Over 3k words and still going! Original story: www.reddit.com/r/QuadrantNi...

I’ve read plenty of books on craft, but not enough on what to do after a final draft is completed. Making it my new goal for now to read more books on the business end of writing, starting with this one. Enjoying it so far! #writing #writingadvice #indieauthors

What books have you read so far in 2025 that have utterly captivated you? For me it’s The Gone World. I love books seeping in atmosphere and Sweterlitsch does a fantastic job with it. #booksky #books #reading

What do you use for your note and do you have a certain template you use for note taking? I’ve been experimenting around with some. I created this template inspired by the Story Grid method, it’s a bit involved & I haven’t really had the chance to work with it yet. Using OneNote for note taking.

Got a first page you’re proud of? Quote and share it! Nothing like having your prologue be an internal disclaimer from an agency that investigates “story crimes” that go against “the will of the plot” that guides all stories.

FBS Internal Disclaimer
The following document contains confidential information
regarding “The Novel Killer” case. The primary source of the
document comes from an unpublished transcript between the
journalist / muse Meadow Church1 and the notorious “Novel Killer”
AKA Mary, last name unknown. The interview was recorded in The
Storybook Motel, a small roadside motel found off Route 9 in the
World Between Worlds (WBW). The case file also contains
supplemental sources of the various incidents mentioned in the
following document, along with commentary in the form of
footnotes provided by the FBS ISCD2 team assigned to the case.
The Novel Killer is described as a female at approximately 5
feet 4 inches (162 cm), weighing at approximately 120 pounds
(54.5 kg). She has brown hair and hazel eyes and has been
described as looking “exceptionally plain.”
The contents of this case are to remain confidential until the
resolution of the investigation. The Novel Killer is deemed too
dangerous to have any details of the investigation made public
for the protection of the many characters (especially main and
supporting characters) and their connected muses. The Novel
Killer is elusive and cunning and should be kept in the dark as
much as possible. All FBS agents are requested to provide the
same advice we have been giving since this case was established
fifteen years ago: characters fulfilling the roles of main,
supporting, reoccurring, or antagonists be aware of any
suspicious activity within their world, especially of any
activity happening out of the Plot’s will. The bounty of ten
book deals shall remain in place for any information critical to
catching The Novel Killer.

Definitely one of the best books on writing I’ve read. It’s more of a productivity book (it is a spinoff of the successful productivity book The 12 Week Year after all) but geared towards writing. Great for writers who are also productivity nerds like me.

The fact that Annihilation, my favorite book of all time, has a 3.78 rating on GoodReads is proof that you don’t have to chase 4 or 5 star ratings. No matter what, you’ll probably end up writing somebody’s favorite book of all time that they’ll never shut up about 😄. #writingcommunity

My little book about the investigation of a serial killer who kills main characters in other stories is out. Read if you enjoy mixed genres, esoteric story telling, and world building directly inspired by the writing process. It’s weird, it’s fun, and a short read! a.co/d/1Eqoen3

Rereading Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer for my nth time and this line never ceases to move me. Easily one of my favorite lines in any book I’ve ever read. As an author I aspire to write something that can move readers like this one does to me.
Photo of the quote “One of the great traumas of my life was worrying about the pool. Would the new owners see the beauty and the importance of leaving it as is, or would they destroy it, create unthinking slaughter in honor of the pool’s real function?” From Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer.
