As of today, the Big UGLY Bill's cuts to SNAP and Medicaid are hitting home for families across IL-01. If you or someone you love lost benefits or coverage, call (800) 843-6154 for SNAP or 1-877-805-5312 for Medicaid. Be sure to share this so no one in our district is left without help.

Black youth deserve better than this! They deserve the same urgency, that any family in America would demand for their own child. I stand with the Wells family in calling on The Justice Department to take a full, independent look at this case. We owe Nolan and his family no less than the truth!

When this president locks the door on journalists, he is locking the door on the American people. A free press belongs to the people, not to the powerful. We will not be quiet, and we will not look away!!

The Trump Administration is attacking our museums as "anti-American." Let's call it what it is: a brazen attempt to rewrite our past. Proud to join @repstansbury.bsky.social and @repkweisimfume.bsky.social to introduce the Smithsonian Integrity and Historical Independence Act. #HandsOffOurHistory

🚨BREAKING: Republican leaders are running from the vote to hold Secretary Hegseth accountable for an unauthorized war. Turns out the fastest way to protect Pete Hegseth is to shut down Congress. Mission accomplished!

Sixty-three years ago, four little girls were killed in a Birmingham church. Yesterday I stood with faith leaders and colleagues at the Smithsonian to honor them and answer one call: Black history is American history. We refuse to let it be erased. #IL01 #BlackHistory #Smithsonian

Trump lied about mail voting for years while voting by mail himself. This year he tried to make the lie law, using the Postal Service to block ballots. The Supreme Court said no, 7-2. Your right to vote survived his attack. Now go use it in November.

Today we remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honor the first responders and everyday Americans who ran toward danger to help others. We hold their families in our hearts and recommit ourselves to the unity this nation showed. We will never forget.

Secretary Mullin is fanning the flames of hatred and has no business running this department. Resign NOW! Every person of conscience must speak up when our government degrades people like this. It’s vile, it’s racist, and it must stop. How much longer will we allow this pattern of hatred?

The US Ambassador to the UN wants the UN to cut off the weapons fueling Sudan’s war. Start at home: halt US arms sales to the countries arming the RSF. The bills exist. This administration opposed them. Use the power we have to stop the killing!

I wholeheartedly welcome the UK’s ban on trade with illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestine territories. Expansion, land seizures, and settler violence are fueling the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians. International law must mean something, and accountability must apply to all.

How much of what we call “fact” is just what we’ve been taught to see? For generations, maps shrank Africa. Now the UN backs more accurate ones. The vote: 164-1, with the US the lone no. This is about accuracy and respect. America should lead in drawing a fair world, not resist it.

Sec. Hegseth gutted Civilian Harm Mitigation & Response because it was “woke.” EVERY SINGLE COMMANDER pushed back, but Hegseth went against our legal -& moral- imperative anyway. Since then, the US military has killed hundreds of civilians. Hegseth & Trump's illegal, reckless war on Iran must end.

Our parks belong to the people and are meant for “the enrichment of the lives of all of us.” (FDR) That means preserving and protecting our parks and historic landmarks. It means ensuring they tell the full American story—honestly and without a sanitized or selective version of our history.
Picture of National Park Service removing an exhibit on slavery at Philadelphia’s Independence National Historical Park in response to Trump's executive order “restoring truth and sanity to American history.” Caption on picture says "America’s national parks are woven into the fabric of our national identity and belong to every American.

The National Park Service must remain firmly grounded in its core mission: protecting and preserving these irreplaceable places for future generations while ensuring that the history they tell is accurate, complete, and accessible to all."

Great speaking with you @akoseff.bsky.social. Black-majority districts were not created by chance. They emerged from decades of racial segregation, disenfranchisement, and the struggle of Black communities to overcome efforts to deny them political power.

Social Security isn’t the problem. The choice to let the wealthiest Americans stop paying into it after $184,500 is. We can protect Social Security for generations to come. We just need the political will to make those at the top pay their fair share.

Congressman Jonathan L. Jackson (D-IL 01) @jonathanjackson.house.gov · 15/08/2026
In 2026, a worker earning minimum wage pays Social Security taxes on every dollar they earn, while a billionaire pays those taxes on only the first $184,500 of their wages. And yes—the federal minimum wage is STILL just $7.25 an hour.

Congressman Jonathan L. Jackson (D-IL 01) @jonathanjackson.house.gov · 15/08/2026
Social Security has been declared “doomed” for generations, yet it remains one of America’s most successful programs. Not a single check written has bounced, & 76 million Americans depend on Social Security today. Congress must strengthen it for future generations: raise the taxable earnings cap.

Social Security isn’t a handout. It’s a promise we made to working people who paid into it their entire lives. While Republicans propose cuts & privatization, I’m fighting to protect and strengthen the benefits seniors, people with disabilities, survivors, and families depend on.
