The Trump Administration is attacking our museums as "anti-American." Let's call it what it is: a brazen attempt to rewrite our past. Proud to join @repstansbury.bsky.social and @repkweisimfume.bsky.social to introduce the Smithsonian Integrity and Historical Independence Act. #HandsOffOurHistory

🚨BREAKING: Republican leaders are running from the vote to hold Secretary Hegseth accountable for an unauthorized war. Turns out the fastest way to protect Pete Hegseth is to shut down Congress. Mission accomplished!

Today we remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honor the first responders and everyday Americans who ran toward danger to help others. We hold their families in our hearts and recommit ourselves to the unity this nation showed. We will never forget.

Secretary Mullin is fanning the flames of hatred and has no business running this department. Resign NOW! Every person of conscience must speak up when our government degrades people like this. It’s vile, it’s racist, and it must stop. How much longer will we allow this pattern of hatred?

How much of what we call “fact” is just what we’ve been taught to see? For generations, maps shrank Africa. Now the UN backs more accurate ones. The vote: 164-1, with the US the lone no. This is about accuracy and respect. America should lead in drawing a fair world, not resist it.

Sec. Hegseth gutted Civilian Harm Mitigation & Response because it was “woke.” EVERY SINGLE COMMANDER pushed back, but Hegseth went against our legal -& moral- imperative anyway. Since then, the US military has killed hundreds of civilians. Hegseth & Trump's illegal, reckless war on Iran must end.

Our parks belong to the people and are meant for “the enrichment of the lives of all of us.” (FDR) That means preserving and protecting our parks and historic landmarks. It means ensuring they tell the full American story—honestly and without a sanitized or selective version of our history.
Picture of National Park Service removing an exhibit on slavery at Philadelphia’s Independence National Historical Park in response to Trump's executive order “restoring truth and sanity to American history.” Caption on picture says "America’s national parks are woven into the fabric of our national identity and belong to every American.

The National Park Service must remain firmly grounded in its core mission: protecting and preserving these irreplaceable places for future generations while ensuring that the history they tell is accurate, complete, and accessible to all."

4/ Any credible reconciliation must include all of Venezuela’s democratic opposition, not just a select few. That is why I met opposition leaders and civil society representatives on the sidelines, treating Venezuelans as equal partners, not servants of a foreign viceroy.

🧵1/ Pres Truman's plan for national health was called "socialist" & "communist" but advocates believed something simple: your ability to see a doctor shouldn't depend on your bank account. The anniversary of Medicare & Medicaid reminds us protecting & strengthening public health is an ongoing fight.

Check out the incredible parks across Chicago and remember these spaces deserve investment, not divestment. The Trump Administration's proposed FY2027 budget would cut $736M from the National Park Service, threatening staffing and visitor services across the country. We must protect our parks.

Parks aren't a luxury—they're essential public spaces that support health, strengthen neighborhoods, and ensure every family has access to nature, play, and connection.

Due to the relentless advocacy of people with disabilities, 36 years ago today, the landmark civil rights legislation, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), was signed into law. But the ADA wasn't the finish line—it was a milestone on the path toward inclusivity and equity.
A graphic features a collage of photos from disability rights events and advocacy rallies. At the center is a smiling Black woman, surrounded by images of disability advocates holding signs with messages including "WE HAVE RIGHTS," "DISABILITY RIGHTS are HUMAN RIGHTS," and "Disability rights are civil rights." Other photos show groups of advocates in matching purple shirts, people marching together, and community members gathered in celebration and protest. Large white text at the top reads "Disability Pride Month," with Congressman Jonathan Jackson's logo and the Congressional Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Caucus logo in the upper right. The graphic conveys solidarity, joy, and the ongoing fight for disability rights and inclusion.A blue graphic for Disability Pride Month shows a diverse group of disability advocates posing together at an advocacy event. Participants hold signs calling for affordable and accessible housing, including "Housing 4 All," "25+ Year Waitlist?? Not OKAY," "Take the Wait Off," and "Housing Database Now." The image conveys a sense of community and collective action. Black Maternal Mental Health Week was founded by Kay Matthews after her experience with undiagnosed postpartum depression. Her story demands action, not just awareness. Congress must pass the #Momnibus to confront the maternal health crisis and ensure every mother gets the support she deserves.

The consequences are real: Black women hold far less wealth than white men — money that could mean more stability, opportunity, and security for families. This is not a matter of choices or chance. It is the result of longstanding, systemic inequities that require action.

pictures from modern Special Olympics strung over a box with the words "Over the past 58 years, the Special Olympics has grown from a Chicago-born event into a worldwide movement serving millions of athletes across more than 170 countries. For 58 years, the Special Olympics has shown the world that true champions are defined by resilience, inclusion, and the courage to give their best.
photos from the Special Olympics in black and white hung over a box with the words, "The Special Olympics began with the vision of Eunice Kennedy Shriver, who believed that people with intellectual disabilities deserved opportunities to compete, grow, and be celebrated. That vision became a reality on July 20, 1968, when the first International Special Olympics Games were held at Soldier Field in Chicago. Nearly 1,000 athletes gathered for the historic event, launching a global movement centered on inclusion, respect, and opportunity."

While America's Defense Dept should be focused on real threats abroad, Sec. of Forever Wars Hegseth is fixated on imaginary enemies inside the ranks. His ideological purge targeting diversity, equity, & inclusion is blocking qualified officers, politicizing military service, and eroding readiness. 🧵
