my thoughts on the nikole hannah-jones article are that i think it's pretty weird that she makes her SIXTEEN year old daughter call her DURING the school day, but also didn't know she couldn't do long division when she got to high school? seems like she is helicoptering the wrong part of parenting.

As a fourth generation New Yorker who grew up in The Bronx and went to LaGuardia High School. . . I find this piece so deeply insulting. FUCK Nikole Hannah-Jones and the corny way she's raising a child who's thinking about college acceptances in the 7th grade.

This post REEKS of New York transplant and classism. NHJ should maybe think about protecting her child more instead of putting their private conversations on blast like this for clicks. Because. . .
Exerpt from Nikole Hannah Jones essay is a quote from her middle-school-aged daughter that reads: "'So you had money to send me to one of the best schools, and you chose not to?' she said, hurling her words. 'Because other kids are disadvantaged, you didn’t want to put me in a great school?'"

All THREE of us went to NYC's specialized high schools, and went on to college. If Nikole Hannah-Jones' daughter can't get into NYC's specialized high school? Being in a black public school is NOT the thing that's stopping her from getting there. I went to PS 105 and JHS 117. Fuck NHJ.

It's not a question of the juror being "right" or "wrong". The juror has pretty much an exclusive prerogative to decide whether there was doubt or not. But here the reporting is that the juror *may have had* that doubt: "based on reporting, the holdout juror has acknowledged doubt about the case"

part of the no-quarter attitude here is because a certain type of man needs only the slightest bit of leeway to keep perpetrating their horrors on women. here, choosing to offer empathy = giving those men the go ahead. we really need good guys (like you) to step up to actually end that shit.
