this is kind of a vibes based criticism but knights of guinevere feels written with the same structural underpinnings and dialogue quirks as kid-friendly shows with a veneer of sex, drugs and violence painted over it rather than being holistically written as an adult show. it's cool tho

I liked the new Knights of Guinevere episode! The animation's crazy and the setting really is just incredible, and it's got some really fkn sick bits! I still feel like the dialogue can be a bit ropey but idk, TADC took some time in the early episodes to find it's groove too. Excited for more!

it is good enough to be very good, extremely awesome even, but I've gotten used to a slower pace at my ripe age (late 20's) kinda wish emotional scenes got more breathing room in modern media in general honestly

I do have to ask myself if Christians really care that much about gore or depictions of death at this point in history though, since we’re living under a government that plans to live stream an execution & loves murder so who knows

💥Alex.W💪🏾💥 @jokeb0i.bsky.social · 16h

also, tbh, I think horrror ultimately exists in a strange middle ground between genuine consumer taste & publishers indulging ppls paranoia & curiosity for profit unfortunately christo-fascism often points to extreme cases as an excuse to enact extreme censorship so nothing is ever simple

💥Alex.W💪🏾💥 @jokeb0i.bsky.social · 16h

“good art disturbs the comforted & comforts the disturbed” is something that gets passed around as gospel & whether or not that sentiment broadly applies to horror anyhow, I wish ppl would ask themselves if misanthropic straight white men have their fingers on the pulse of who those two groups are

Comics in the Spooky Age 🧛‍♂️🧟‍♀️🎃 @comicsinthega.bsky.social · 23h

Today is the birthday of cartoonist, illustrator, writer, & teacher Elton Fax (Oct. 9, 1909-May 13, 1993). He worked on pulp magazines & comic books, and in 1942, created the comic strip Susabelle about a young girl. He wrote and illustrated over 30 books on various topics, including Black history.

The cover to a book he wrote called "Contemporary Black Leaders." It shows sketches of Malcolm X, Coretta Scott King, Thurgood Marshall, Fannie Lou Hamer, Charles Evers, Bayard Rustin, and more.

The cover he did for a Western pulp magazine that shows a cowboy holding his gun and crouching behind a bar during a gunfight.

A sample strip from Susabelle. She is slicing onions and its making her cry so she goes to put on a gas mask

if you plan to leave the house “all day”, every day, for a month this will cost you about $341 :)

0130

💥Alex.W💪🏾💥 @jokeb0i.bsky.social · 22h

day pass for the bus in portland runs about 6$, using a restroom often requires buying an item at a coffee shop which will often run you an average of 5$ on the cheap side which means leaving the house for a whole day without a car or bike may cost at least 11 or so dollars

One Piece fan-art. Young Iceburg in his one-room apartment, bird's eye view. His day clothes are shed, strewn on the floor in a deliberate arrangement, socks, handkerchief, shirt, pants not touching each other. His room is small, full of things but orderly. Shoes under the bed. Emptied coffee cup on the dining table, a paperweight for a pamphlet. Nice shirt and nice pants hung on the closet door. He's eyeing the shower in the corner, a space not sectioned off, still part of the room with only colored tiles, a curtain and a drain to delineate.

Strange Places 🔥🏁

digital art by jabberwick. An abstract environmental scene. Stoves with tall chimneys sit in a line and warp into the left and right horizons. A round checkerboard fills the foreground, while eyeballs float disembodied throughout the scene. Behind the stoves a fiery red glow illuminates a strange, long-necked figure. Scribbled stars speckle the upper half of the image, and a little golden clockwork rat darts diagonally across the foreground. The scene is teal, orange, pink. Multicoloured and storybook.

cannot wait to collect more chestnuts, worth all the work, you don't have to boil 'em by the way, I left mine in water over night and roasted 'em the next day, same result

I just feel like social media has created this kind of weird disconnect from reality and other people and when it doesn’t manifest as anxiety it’s like a form of extroversion without any empathy or social skills or a desire for immersive experiences but an inability to unplug
