I've recently started a project to provide stable identifiers for 'artifacts' (mostly maker/research/hobby electronics) to help combat link rot and aid discoverability. It works much like DOIs for papers, but is based on an open index maintained on GitHub - see hwidx.org for details :)

If there are some handy power pins exposed someplace a little extra usbc connections hidden on the base might work too. It's just a real shame right now that it looks so slick then so goofy with the connection where it is

Does it look like there's any way to hack in a usb connector somewhere other than jabbed into the side? I was very tempted by it, but the "just throw it on the side" connection feels poorly thought out and spoiled the slick look ☹️

Fair enough, perhaps as an optional filter based on the bio then? The filters for the body text would work for individual messages, but having the option of filtering in the bio would be more generally useful. Also, if noone attempts to standardise it'll take longer and be worse overall 😁

🗣💬 Major update: the corpus collection tool BlueskyScraper now comes with a live stream module which lets you collect posts in real time, either randomly or through filters, then download the results as a file in the format of your choice. 🔗 Info: fmoncomble.github.io/blueskyscrap...

You're placed well to standardise an opt-out emoji/combo, maybe just 🔏 or 🔒as a flag to skip this user would do? Again, thinking aloud, discussion welcome!

Dr. John Vidler @johnvidler.co.uk · 09/12/2024
Mostly just pondering aloud, but would it be possible to query a user's bio text when scraping (maybe cached to prevent excessive queries) and have the app check for an opt-out symbol? There was a lot of talk of this when a bluesky Corpus was released lately.
