If you just know Dan from Flash Gordon, see where he polished all his storytelling tricks, and read an alt history pulp mystery man comic where Poirot tries to umask The Scarlet Pimpernel.

Reading it all together feels like a massive door stopper Martin/Abercrombie fantasy series in a good way.

This, and fighting wars for Arab oil states like a big mercenary company are all republicans do. Whatever they put on the cover, this is what’s in the box every time

And that’s that! Now to sit back and enjoy @danschkade.bsky.social’s strip while he does ALL of the work. Dan’s a force of nature, I have no idea how he sustains the output by himself, and keep it consistently great at the same time

I've been reading a lot of Golden Age superhero stories recently & thinking about how the good guys used to fight the real ills of society but now so many stories involve nonsense cosmic threats with no meaningful stakes. Lavender Jack feels like a return to the roots of superhero comics (& pulps).
Lavender Jack confronts the corrupt ruling elite and warns them he's watching them.Batman confronts the corrupt ruling elite and warns them he's watching them.

(I know it's not from the Golden Age but it's telling that Batman Year One is one of the most fondly remembered and critically acclaimed Batman stories and it essentially boils down to Batman fighting corrupt cops and politicians with (almost) no supervillains.)

Dans good at that that. Even the capitalist jagoffs in lavender Jack have realistic human motives

It’s absolutely bonkers how often they set him up with a complete softball and he’s like, “Yeah, the thing is, I don’t care about other people. Like, at all. LOL.’

That one character can get you this story, one that’s magnus robot fighter on an orbital factory of evil capitalists and one that’s gladiator and one that’s an urban crime story where he infiltrates a right wing religious meth cult. That’s versatility

I love Dan’s artwork too, but his writing is just as good and we need him rested for the rest of the year. You also can’t argue with the guests he found to warm his seat.

Awesome. I want to start a new GH campaign and these are perfect (extensive playtesting ftw!) But i didn’t want to start knowing I’d have to approximate the climactic chapter from scratch.

If all these keep getting released but the specials stay convention only - what should home DMs do when they get to say “paladin prince” and can’t run it?

It’s an alternate timeline that splits from the battle of Emridy meadows in 569. They described it like the Chris pine Star Trek movies - same people in a different version of the story becuase the players choices affected it (they did a multi table version of the battle at Magic Con last year

Yours is the only Flash Gordon comic I’ve read, so maybe they have tons of arcs where they whip huge ass, but so far the Tusk Men have taken zero W’s.

Even though I only know the movie and 79 cartoon, it’s cool you are giving us the best of the various eras of the strip, both in concepts and visuals. whether i know where they came from or not, It’s nice to know I’m getting the “best of FG”

Take a bow for your character designs. Even with all the different interpretations of flash out there, some published at the same time as yours, we’ve had four guest artists with very different styles and I can always tell that these are “your” flash dale zarkov aura barin Ming etc

Rereading Flash Gordon by @danschkade.bsky.social from the start and I am yet again struck by the perfection of the comic strip form, the combination of art, color and text. The dialogue is flawless. Here is the first strip, bookmark and read later. Trust me. comicskingdom.com/flash-gordon...

If you’re having trouble telling them apart, Geese sounds like the members of the Strokes were drafted into Pavement against their will, and Goose sounds like 4 CPAs were hired to form a jam band sponsored by Whole Foods.

WEDNESDAY EVENING BONUS: My designs for the dragonman uniforms. At first I played around with a more 70s American GI look (green clothes and gear, etc) but that almost immediately turned into Rogue Trooper, so I pivoted into the dark fantasy Kira vibe instead. It's where they're from, after all.
My costume designs for the Dragonmen uniforms in the current FLASH GORDON storyline, one for the older, higher-ranking guards and one for the rookies. 2000AD's Rogue Trooper

Dune and Star Wars have elaborate world-building reasons why they fight with swords in a hyper-advanced tech society, but FG’s simple one makes more sense to me : Mongo is just a highly martial culture that values personal combat and dueling.

Whole Mar-a-Lago set up and ambience is so desperately dated, and trying to resurrect the cocaine 70s/80s. A scream of petulance as these rich boomers claw at the lives they lost decades ago.

Remember, Christians, The Rapture is not in the Bible. It’s a concept from New York City and It dates back only to 1998, when Mattie Safer and Luke Jenner formed a dance/punk band and became popular during the “electro” craze with songs like “No Sex For Ben” youtu.be/m0CAJqCT5ds?...
