No, Bike Shops Shouldn’t Have to Fix Every E-Bike
There may be millions of unsupported e-bikes looking for someone to fix them. That doesn’t mean independent bike shops are stupid for saying no.

A 🧵on two of my all-time favorite charts. The 1st, just published by the @iea.org in the “State of Energy Policy 2026” report shows that more than half of industrial CO2 emissions are now covered by carbon pricing. Reports linked below.
The share of industrial emissions covered by a carbon price increased dramatically in 2025 to 58%.

Electric vehicle adoption is a key part of climate and transportation goals, and local policies can make a big difference. One such policy is allowing EVs to use high-occupancy vehicle lanes even with a single driver. A new paper examines how these exemptions affected EV adoption ceepr.link/4qV4veK

In the NYT, our Faculty Director Christopher Knittel weighs in on data center policy — from on-site power to moratoriums. Get it right, and we support the grid + AI growth. Get it wrong, and costs rise. Policy brief: buff.ly/VyIYRum NYT: buff.ly/eoXJ9rx

FIFA has officially issued President Trump a yellow card. If he assassinates another world leader, it’ll become an automatic red card and he won’t be eligible for another FIFA Peace Prize for 4 years.

I gave up on FERC’s EQR database a decade ago. No data standardization. No quality control. Mostly serves as an episodic source for journalists needing a number without regard for veracity. Maybe it’s been improved since.

When I was an undergraduate, I protested apartheid. I participated in a sit-in, taking over the Princeton administration offices. It violated university rules. Lucky for me that the university did not expel me as these litigants would have MIT expel these students.
