There was a moment when the US was taken over by enemies and criminals, the incompetent, the corrupt, and the malevolent. There really is this rash of very weird GOP defenses. Like when Paxton said the guy didn’t do one day in prison. That’s a lie! I put him in for a hard 60 days! Or Marshall saying he didnt get the pregnant woman arrested for late bill. It was for not showing up for the lawsuit over the late bill!

Not sure it’s tenable if, going forward, every president knows that so long as they have firm control over DOJ, enough loyal senators to avoid removal, and are willing to issue blanket pardons on the way out, they can break any law they please while in office.
