Angelinos -- Mid-Wilshire is mourning the loss of another quirky business: the Shell station at the Fairfax-Olympic-San Vicente intersection is now an SK station. And the prices aren't crazy inflated. Does tradition mean nothing anymore?

Brief rant: Yes it's cool that Brunson took less money so the Knicks could build a champion under the salary cap. But he shouldn't have *had* to. Salary caps are just tools billionaires use to suppress wages, and no one gets upset because the labor (pro athletes) make so much money. 1/5

Taking a break from our nation's deep troubles... the Shakey's Pizza at Olympic/San Vicente/Fairfax has closed. Site will be redeveloped. Into what? I'm hoping they build a building there rather than turn the site into another street. That intersection has enough streets as it is!

The real MVP 🏈

1. Confetti rains down on a football field at the end of the Super Bowl. A sportscaster interviews Kevin on the field. Kevin wears a player's uniform and holds the M.V.P. trophy. He pants into the microphone, "…Well, y'know, -pant- time was running out. I didn't -pant- think I could hold on to it, but then I did…"
2. Kevin hoists the M.V.P. trophy above his head. "…I just want to thank God, my team, and my parents for believing in me. Miracles can happen! Thank you!!" he says.
3. Cut to the studio, where two sportscasters chat. "…And there you have it," says one. "Kevin McShane named M.V.P. for remembering to bring home his tupperware from the Super Bowl potluck."
4. Cut to real life. Kevin stands in his apartment, holding his tupperware up like the M.V.P. trophy. Behind him, his bird quips, "You're sooo proud of yourself." "I -always- forget!" Kevin says in triumph.

I received more texts about the closing of the Pea Soup Andersen's in Buellton than I did about Bill Belichick being fired. a) Belichick separating from the Patriots was less of a surprise; b) the Pats don't play again until August pre-season, Buellton needs pea soup TODAY.
