Very informative video, the devil is in the detail of headline ship numbers.

One of the Great Lakes best preserved wrecks is that of HMS Ontario. The 22 gun frigate sank in a storm on #LakeOntario in October 1780 with the loss of approximately 80 men.

Good article outlining the contemporary UAV/unmanned environment. I would have thought it better to derisk complex future autonomous systems by running them in parallel with existing capabilities. Given the out-of-service date of T45, this will be a tight squeeze, won't it?

The next few months will be interesting to see whether this was a Starmer problem or a more systematic failure.

Today, February 15th, is National Flag of Canada Day, the anniversary of when our Maple Leaf flag was first raised. Also, on a single day, when Canada possessed 2 flags? #CanadianFlag #RedEnsign #CdnHist #Vexillology

Interesting. I’d only known him from the trophy, but quite an interesting career as a Gunner in the Great War. Wounded, awarded MC, RFC observer, prisoner of war with several unsuccessful escape attempts, long periods of solitary confinement. Quite a tale!

No simple answers... 1. The loyalty was mixed between cultural ties (generally strong) and political ties (much more conditional). 2. Also noting that 'Britishness' was stronger in the colonies (with their English/Scots/Irish/Welsh amalgam) than in the UK. 3. Canadian citizenship dates from 1947.

If my memory serves correctly, the Imperial authorities in London actually advised against interning Ukrainians (and certain other Austro-Hungarian nationalities).

Great illustration, I am glad you were able to formally register it for the archives. I always thought the 13-point maple leaf was quite nice, less austere, as on the 'Pearson Pennant'.

On Jan. 29, 1894, the first Quebec Winter Carnival was held. The largest winter festival in the Western Hemisphere (and second largest on Earth), many aspects of the festival like the caribou drink, the ice palace and Bonhomme have become iconic. This is its story. 🧵 1/12
A white snowman mascot wearing a red knit cap with a pom-pom and a colorful striped sash tied around the waist. The figure has a smiling face, black eyes, a round nose, and three black buttons down the front. One arm is raised as if waving. Behind the mascot are tall ice structures resembling castle walls and towers made of stacked translucent ice blocks, set against a clear blue sky.
