So basically I try to paint a picture of a reality with a bunch of moving parts. Stuff can definitely go wrong, but it’s helpful to know that the going wrong will occur within a complexity, probably right next to success, and you’ve got to have some standard other than pastness to judge by.

I read Wittgenstein’s *On Certainty* 25 years ago and still have my old copy all marked up and worn. I haven’t read it since. It’s a breakthrough memory of thinking as doing, as problem-solving, while simultaneously a monitoring and refining of provisional solutions toward truth that stays with me.
