Even if you're not big into F1, this is great for telly nerds. But what I particularly liked were the multiple asides that show how deep the scars of the utter boredom of the early 2000s are for those of us who stuck with F1 through it. Younger fans just don't realise how bad it can get.

F1 will only realise far too late what a problem it's giving itself by racing as an essentially ICE formula in the 2030s. By two years in, they will be scrambling to fix it and bring the next set of engine regs in early too. Talk about just not getting it. www.motorsport.com/f1/news/firs...

@samholloway.bsky.social I'm relying on song 3 here... 3s or 4s definitely. Maybe 3s?

@samholloway.bsky.social I'm in the credits (as a crowdfunder) of a documentary following Slow Club's final tour. It's a melancholy and sometimes uncomfortable watch. I was surprised they even made it to a fourth album after the third one failed to cross over. They missed their moment somehow.

Thinking of compiling an end-of-year list called Stupid Old Men Who Made Fools Of Themselves In 2026. It'd do big numbers. This cretin probably hasn't beaten Richard Dawkins and his AI girlfriend, mind. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Not many things truly shock me in these dark times, but I just saw an advert for Toby Carvery breakfast - yes *breakfast* - with a Yorkshire pudding on the plate. Breakfast.

Thanks - good to get confirmation. I'm sure it's been well researched and thought through, so I might be unusual in having found those featured useful; but if it's not too late for feedback I'd like to throw that in. Cheers.

Oh - has the iPlayer interface been changed to remove sorting options? So you can't, say, check to see which films have been added most recently? That was a useful feature, but I can't see it on desktop or mobile now. Maybe @skillagesteve.bsky.social knows?

I also remember the denouement being extremely clever and satisfying (and unfortunately, or not, am watching it now with my remembered knowledge of who the traitor is)... but possibly I was rather harsh to write off the first five eps as merely set-up.
Tweet by me on June 4th 2015: Ep6 of The Game paid off everything set up over the previous episodes beautifully. Very clever. But the 1st 5 eps were basically all set-up

Revisiting my tweets from the time, I remember I was impatient to watch it...
Tweet by me from April 15th 2015:

Finally the BBC gives s tx date for The Game (Apr 30th)! Can only presume this has been victim of BBC politics for some reason. A shame.

Latest TV re-watch: Toby Whithouse's 2015 Cold War spy thriller The Game. BBC sat on it for ages. Commissioned for BBC1 but eventually shunted out on 2. Possibly it takes its cues from Tinker Tailor a bit too overtly, but I'm 3 eps in and it's wonderfully layered and intriguing. Well worth a look

Actually no, scrub that - getting confused. I was thinking of the final track, Horses Jumping, which is a PITA to play because there's a gap then a secret track after it. Must have been one of the last albums to do that. Annoying. Decade Dip: vague guess of the 4s.

Thoroughly enjoyed Altered Images tonight, running through the Happy Birthday album in full and projecting more power and drama than I've ever picked up from the album. Excellent second part to the set really was hit after hit after hit.

Feel I should add: I absolutely don't blame any of the band members for not wanting to expend time and effort revisiting what they did from age 16 to 20 (or whatever Pete was). Pity the catalogue hasn't had more love, that's all. I mean, if Cherry Red really can't find anyone else to do it...
000
John Kell @johnkell.bsky.social · 02/09/2026
Their first two major label singles were from when you could have three B-sides on a single CD; after that it was the era of two CDs with two B-sides on each. They did a lot of B-sides on a relatively small number of singles!
000
John Kell @johnkell.bsky.social · 02/09/2026
To be fair, I don't blame any of them for not being motivated to spend a lot of time and effort revisiting what they were doing between ages 16 and 20 (or however old Pete was) that ended a bit acrimoniously.

John Kell @johnkell.bsky.social · 02/09/2026
Real shame there was never a Kenickie boxset with all their B-sides and sessions... But the time for that was probably around 2007. A band where nobody's curating the back catalogue, sadly.

@samholloway.bsky.social ooh the quality's taken a dip with song 4! And I don't know when it came out, mercifully missed it at the time. Maybe it's 0s...

@samholloway.bsky.social ah, I did enjoy that REO Speedwagon! I thought 2/3/4 from that, but song 3 makes me think it's an earlier album and we're on the 0s or 1s. Hmmm.

@samholloway.bsky.social it was Sparks?? I've never clicked with them to be fair... So, I think I was right to consider the late 70s idea, as I think Toy Soldiers was 89...

@samholloway.bsky.social What on earth is song 2 tonight??? From the sound I'd guess... I was going to say early 80s, but could be late 70s actually. No idea when song 1 came out.

So I'm 3 and a bit episodes into The Rapture on iPlayer, which I'm really enjoying, and... God I hope the resolution isn't as on rails as it looks like it could be. Praying I'm looking at some industrial strength misdirection, and possibly about to binge through to the end.

I was an absolute devotee of But First This on the BBC, but it blows my mind now to find out I could have got into Stingray a full five years earlier! Sam Shore aside, this couldn't look any more 1987, could it? Easy to forget the bomber jacket with badges look wasn't unique to Ace in Doctor Who.
