I hated the baseball thing in DS9’s original run. Back in the good old days, there was a strong delineation between nerds and jocks, and I thought Star Trek was a safe place away from sports’ omnipresence in real life. But the baseball episode is very funny. It’s all fine.

Celia Rose Gooding is great, the episode was awful. All these actors deserve better. The SNW writers & their 20-odd producers make zero effort to create science fiction that evens seems to make any kind of sense. I shouldn’t have to turn my brain off every week to enjoy Star Trek.

Earth had “conquered” Vulcan & “uplifted” Spock’s noble savage race! Also there was a guy in engineering (not Scotty as Gene claimed) whose “thing” was cheating natives they encountered on planets, trading contraband. They beam down to the Guardian of Forever planet to execute him by phaser!

I read the book, & while Ellison was right that Roddenberry lied for years about why they had to rewrite it (I heard him myself via phone interview at a convention), the final script is absolutely much better Star Trek than the original Hugo Award winning teleplay. There’s a line where Kirk mentions

Big fan during its OG run, but haven’t watched it since. We watched a couple random episodes on Irish tv while traveling. Man, the tone shift in that series is nuts! It was two eps in a row about trying to get someone laid (a random nurse & then Radar). & Hawkeye’s “womanizing” would never fly today
