I’m sorry, Melissa Clark. That looks delicious, but if I asked you for a vegetarian take on a BLT and you handed me a mushroom burger, I’d feel rather cheated.
Screenshot of a recipe article featuring a large, crispy mushroom sandwich on a green plate. The sandwich is topped with lettuce, tomato, and red onion on a brioche bun. Image caption reads: "Yewande Komolafe’s crispy mushroom sandwiches. Andrew Bui for The New York Times.” Article text reads “Melissa explains it all: meatless BLTs. Speaking of tomato sandwiches, several readers wrote in asking for ideas for meatless BLTs."

lol. Different channel, but same clickbait-y “terrifying” slop history MO. Or is it? I mean, Joe sure looks upset. mPerhaps this one is legit? Perhaps we’ll never know — I’m not watching this one to find out.

On the right, there is a digital rendering of Göbekli Tepe, with a futuristic, glowing humanoid figure reaching toward it. I haven’t watched this, but either the “solution” is bullshit, or this is another example of the devaluation of the word “terrifying.”

Large, bold text across the bottom reads "THIS IS TERRIFYING!" in black on a white background. The video title below is "The Roman Dodecahedron Mystery Is Finally Solved — And the Truth Is Worse..." by the channel The Lost Codex.

BREAKIBG: Josie and the Pussycats will no longer be opening for Ed Sheeran.
Animated characters from "Josie and the Pussycats" performing on a stage. The three band members are wearing matching leopard-print bodysuits with cat ears and tails. From left to right, there is a character with short red hair playing a red guitar, a character with blonde hair playing the drums, and a character with dark hair playing a tambourine. The bass drum in the center displays the band's name, "Josie and the Pussycats."

Dear Journalists, When a serial shitstain claims they have apologised for something, you should not report that statement as fact unless they have actually apologised. Noting that some people are “skeptical” does not make your headline any less of an outright falsehood.
Snippet of article from Wyoming Public Radio.

Headline: “Pastor apologizes for Sundance comments. Protesters are skeptical”

Intro: On a rainy Sunday at the end of August, about a dozen protesters held up signs outside the Foundations for Nations church near Arapahoe. Cars and trucks honked in support as they passed. One sign hanging on the fence summarized the general sentiment: “Leave.”

“She called our sacred pipe an idol,” said Northern Arapaho member MiRae Yellowbird.

I discovered this technique myself in my teens—works every time. I had no idea it had a name. Though for me I don’t need to hold for a full 30 seconds and the small breaths are not necessary. www.instagram.com/p/DcbbOU9lnE...
Instagram post from Britannica: “The Hiccup relief using Active Prolonged Inspiration (HAPI) technique works like this:
1. Breathe in as much as you can.
2. Hold the inhalation while continuing to take small breaths for about 30 seconds.
3. Slowly exhale.”

Dear Activists, If you are literally pumping out posts and reposts every minute then don’t be surprised or upset if some people put you on mute for a bit. Doesn’t matter how worthy your cause is.
DM from Hendrik Klaasens asking me why I out him on my “Quiet Corner” list and explaining that he was “leading a Campaign Wave on climate change.” I reply that his campaign wave was flooding my feed so I temporarily put him on my mute list and would remove him from it in due course, to which he replied “Okay, I unfollowed you. Problem solved.”

The 2024 cover on the other hand is colonialism writ large. It is overwhelmingly male and white and depicts conquest, not exploration. Is this really where you want to take the Traveller Community, Mongoose? 3/3
Cover of the 2024 printing of the Traveller Core Rulebook Update 2022 book. It depicts three humanoid figures and an alien. Fromleft to right we see a short, armoured, possibly female humanoid of indeterminate species, what looks like a robot carrying a weapon, a very white human male holding a sword above his head in an attitude of conquest, an Aslan male holding a weapon, and an alien that looks kind of like a tortoise, but with a head that is basically a tentacled maw with eyes. In the background are a couple of starships and a ringed planet.

Cover of the 2021 printing of the Traveller Core Rulebook Update 2022 book. It depicts a group of five humanoids. From left to right: a Vargr holding a weapon in each hand, an Aslan holding a weapon, a white human woman, apparently the leader, pointing off in the distance, a black human operating some sort of device, presumably a scanner, and an armoured figure holding a weapon. The tone is a diverse group of people exploring a new world, prepared for danger. In the background a couple of starships can be seen. The near one ha "Beowulf" printed on its side, a reference to the earliest editions of the Traveller game.

Surprising absolutely nobody 😂
Snippet from a The Conversation article on the effects of music on driving performance:

“Music you choose yourself tends to be less distracting than music imposed on you. Drivers often select music to regulate their mood and arousal – and that can stabilise their driving.

“Conversely, several experiments show researcher-selected or imposed music leads to poorer performance: more collisions and violations, especially when the driver doesn’t like the music.”

It’s also entirely likely that maybe what you have is not the flu at all. In my experience people categorise quite a number of different seasonal maladies as “the flu.” Do you have a sniffle and feel like shit? Could be anything. Have you been laid up in bed for three days running? Probably the flu.
Snippet from a The Conversation article about COVID and influenza vaccines.

“ If I get the flu a few days after the vaccine, is it because I had the flu already?

“After you catch the flu virus, it usually hides in your body for a few days before you notice any symptoms. So, it is possible to catch the flu and then get a vaccine without knowing you are infected because you haven’t developed symptoms yet.

“This is just unlucky timing. While it isn’t dangerous, getting the vaccine while you have the flu may make you feel worse. If you do feel unwell with a fever, you should delay getting your flu jab until you recover.”

We have a small nature pond that we like to keep ice free because birds love it in winter. We have a de-icer that we controlled manually, but this year I’ve decided to automate it. It’s supposed to be thermostatically controlled and I wanted to see when it kicked in and, well …
Two graphs. One tracking ambient temperature and upper and lower temperatures. The other tracks the de-icer power consumption. You can see the pond temperatures rising when the de-icer is on, but there is no sign at all of the alleged thermostat kicking in. Not even when the pond temperature exceeds 15°C (59°F).
