I think Mr Pennycook is well motivated and sincere but he has a glacial approach to delivery. Highly complex issues can be solved quickly, it just needs adequate resources applied. He behaves like he’s growing a giant redwood from seed. It is possible to just get on with it!

Fair, I do get that. I just see Farage as PM as a threat in 3 years, whereas a Reform mayor in GM feels imminent now. I’m also not so confident that Burnham will maintain momentum for the three years needed to see off the risk you identify. It feels like a misstep to me but I hope it works out.

I’m with Emily. Starmer shouldn’t fight the next election but leaving now would hasten the election/hobble the new leader. We don’t want an election while Trump still in office. If Trump’s brand burns out (as is happening) then Reform will (hopefully) lose their appeal. That’s labours best hope imo
