With the news media being "look at this technically impressive feat AI can do" every other day now, all I can say is that your standards for what's technically impressive are way too damn low.

I think part of why we're rejecting "AI" en masse is because when the Internet went commercial, it was a unifying event that invited participation and interaction. "AI" is an isolating technology that's meant to reduce human participation as much as possible. How is that fun?

I predict we'll need gyms for our brains too, once Al

I am not being hyperbolic: the current financial condition of Oracle is entirely untenable. It cannot afford its obligations with regard to these data centers. If it stopped here it would merely have a really bad few years. If it continues much further it will die soon. If not, it will eventually.

It may be because everyone who has ever touched an Oracle product hates them with the intensity of a billion supernovas and the total chaos their demise will no doubt induce is offset by the secret thought everyone in IT shares: good riddance.

Don't get fooled by the "cheaper and more efficient models" here. When you're in a gigantic debt hole, switching from roast beef to bologna sandwiches isn't going to suddenly fix your budget.

So not only is this discourse dumb, it's even dumber than people fathom.

Silicon Valley techbros (yes, all the way to the top) not only believe they are making this machine god, but that they'll be on its "good side" because they did everything in their power to birth it as soon as possible. It's a 100% delusion-fuelled panic, but the panic they are experiencing is real.

A lot of people react to this with visible confusion, which I get. In short, it all comes around again to Roko's Basilisk, aka the most smooth-brained thought experiment ever conceived, in which an AI turned machine god makes digital copies of all humans and tortures those copies for eternity.

No need to look up statistics, it's theoretically ALWAYS better to choose the bear. Even if the bear killed 100% of the time, it would still win out, because it would just start and stop at killing.

They were right and all the haters were wrong. Except, one thing...it's still not a god, now is it? It has no "super" abilities to speak of. Their SI is a malfunctioning sycophantic chatbot built on stolen data and copyright infringement. I'll give them SI is a better acronym: Scam Intelligence.

Johan Lenaerts @johanlenaerts.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
The USA renaming AI to superintelligence is the toddler's ultimate move taken to the extreme. They said AI will become a superintelligence, a machine god that can reshape the universe. There's no way that can really happen of course, so now they're just renaming it to SI. See, SI exists.

Art, literature and music are ways we express our human experience. Generative AI has nothing to say. Its remixed slop can only ever be, to quote Shakespeare, “a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.”

AI has not made us better, more productive, more successful or grown the economy outside of GPU sales and data center construction. It has also made the price of every single device of every kind more expensive, depressed the housing market, and increased literally everybody’s cost of debt.

It definitely could, because again: resolution affects model complexity, which can reduce aliasing and jagged lines. VR would be a good place for it. It's a damn shame then that Nvidia and AMD went all in on machine learning tricks instead of making GPUs powerful enough to handle 8K, huh?

Can we also talk about the absolute batshitness of having to do workarounds for embedded generative AI because it makes so many errors and yet the *de facto* position of these major corporations seems to be that it is logical and sensible to inflict *incorrect functioning* on the world?
