Lovely to see the NYMR steam loco is running now the risk of moorland fires has stopped.
Chuffa train (green loco with cream and brown painted carriages) puffs steam as it travels along the opposite side of the River Esk with the red brick arches of Larpool Viaduct behind. Lots of trees line the slope beyond the track.Chuffa train (green loco with cream and brown painted carriages with some red highlights seen) puffs steam as it travels along the opposite side of the River Esk. The train is heading into the distance with a backdrop of trees and blue sky with wispy clouds. A line of wooden posts in the river echo the line of the river bank and draw the eye towards the train. Trees on the left in this side of the river add depth to the image.

If you hit the charms in the right sequence it opens a wormhole to another galaxy. I can hear Walter saying “chevron horse encoded” #iykyk
The Charm Bracelet sculpture on the Cleveland Way footpath between Saltburn and Skinningrove. The area has a rich mining heritage. There are 10 charms hanging from a large iron ring which stand upright on a grassy hummock with a view to moorland behind. The sky is cloudy with blue patches: the clouds set the circle into relief so it’s a black silhouette against the sky. The charms themselves were moving in the wind making a faint bonging noise as they touched each other.

One of the many many reasons we love the North Yorkshire coastline
A wooden decked path leads straight ahead then becomes a dry sandy and stony path with steps downwards. A few fence posts lean a bit drunkenly to the left of the path. On either side of the path the ground is contoured and bumpy with dry grass, shrubby plants and, curving in the distance, a dark green hedge. On the horizon can be seen dark moorland and green fields. Blue sky with white clouds above.

Couple of buzzards hanging over the estate yesterday, playing & enjoying the thermals. Joined by another, then another two. The five-formation was too far high up to get a pic but lovely to see 🥰.

Distant neighbour where we live was giving away hydrangea flowers she’d pruned yesterday - she didn’t want them just to go into the bin. Aren’t they a lovely colour?
Brownish vase (wider at the bottom and narrowing at the neck) on a white windowsill. The vase holds 3 large deep pink hydrangea flower heads - one is a paler browny pink, the others more a deep raspberry. Several large green leaves sit below the heads on the stems: one is starting to turn a rusty colour.

#SundayPixToday. I reckon every English seaside town has some of these. Iron; probably Victorian in origin; recently repainted (without much care) over a gazillion previous coats and yet still rusty. Meanwhile the sea and the weather carry on regardless.

Blue things today: sky, a damselfly, a pretty wild flower (chicory, I believe).
A bright blue sky with a couple of low puffy clouds, below which is a horizontal line of dark trees and shrubs which add contrast to the golden field directly in front of us (dry stalks from a harvested crop). Beyond the trees and stark white against the sky the ‘modern’ lighthouse of Flamborough Head pokes upwards. A green (John Deere?) tractor with a red trailer thing is working its way across the field, from right to left: it appears to be riddling the surface.Bright blue sky with puffy white clouds. Flamborough lighthouse gleams against the sky on the horizon which slopes down from left to right; scrubby grass and shrubby plants cover the ground in front of us which is contoured upwards towards the lighthouse.A blue wildflowers make a splash of colour amongst dry grass and shrubs as they bob about in the breeze Leaves of a bramble bush on which has settled a damselfly, with striped blue body. The rest of the insect is well camouflaged with its brown double wings hard to see.

Think there might be a drainage issue in this particular shower stall 😬
A gym shower stall (no shower tray) with blue shower curtain pulled back and a discoloured anti-slip mat in the bottom. Grey floor tiles which are very wet from water that’s drained liberally across the floor from the shower.

Today was mostly about the skies. But we didn’t get wet. Which was nice.
3D clouds, all white and gray and backlit. Some sand bars add contours to the low tide, with the sea in the distance; in front of us is green seaweed and gravelly sand.A groyne of low wooden posts stretch out to sea at an angle with a wet sandbar and very shallow water surrounding it. On the far horizon there’s a greenish line of sea that looks like it’s been drawn with a ruler. Grey and white clouds appear backlit and purposeful.Wet sand and brown sea at low tide, the only thing delineating the sand and the sea is a lacy froth of an incoming shallow wave. A few seabirds are fitted around at the tideline. On the far horizon there’s a dark green line where sea meets sky. Grey and white clouds are like a Turner painting with dark patches that appear threatening.

Changeable today but a lovely walk to RSPB Bempton Cliffs.

A few are flying around with the dark grey/green sea below the outcrop as backdropA single footpath track leads away from us towards a pale brown field of crop stubble. The path is between two grass verges which are bright green. Hedges line either side of the path leading into the distance. The sky is cloudy with a couple of small patches of blue peeking through.A bright blue sky with fluffy and wispy clouds. Below is a beach of white pebbles leading to a brown and white cliffside. The sea isn’t visible to the right as it’s low tide, but there are swathes of dark green seaweed where it was. A couple of people are walking along the low tide line.

Ended up not trying to match the pieces other using some of the darker blue on the button band and neck. Pretty happy with it and plenty of “learning opportunities” 😁 #madewithlovedoesntmeanitsperfect #knittingamateur
Front of a knitted Baby cardigan in white with ombré shades of blue which are randomly positioned. Ribbed cuffs, buttonhole band and hem. Bless and white striped buttons. The buttonhole band and neckline are in one shade of blue.Back if the Baby cardigan - the striping of the yarn is more obvious here.

A kind person brought in a big box if fabric and thread to donate at a workshop I was at yesterday (for Project Linus); this was amongst the items - isn’t it BEAUTIFUL?
An open wooden box which once held different fancy soaps: the inside of the lid has descriptions of each. In the ‘box’ bit there are dozens of old fashioned spools of sewing thread. They make a beautiful mosaic of the sort that you might see in a ‘how we used to live’ museum display.

A quiet day of mooching. Gentle stroll to Ruswarp and back then around the harbour and some beachcombing along the tide line. Sadly the stream train had the diesel loco today (the steam loco isn’t running often due to moorland fire risk).
Seen from above (taken from Larpool Viaduct) a railway line runs alongside the River Esk which is millpond smooth. Trees to the right and the red roofs of a small complex of holiday homes to the left. A train is coming towards us. This well-known tourist attraction here on the North Yorks Moor Railway (NYMR) has a steam loco that pulls old style carriages. Think Agatha Christie and times gone by. Today it’s a diesel loco pulling the carriages. The sky is grey but has promise of brightening up.A footpath next to a wire fence in close proximity to the railway line. Passing by us is a train: we’re looking up at some of the old-style carriages of this NYMR steam train (but today pulled by a diesel loco, so sadly no puffa chuffa). The carriages are painted a deep rusty red with a buttery yellow top half and black roof.A boat which is a replica of HMS Endeavour at 40% scale sails into the harbour (no actual sails though) in front of a pier. The boat runs 25 min tours of the harbour and out to sea. The sea is dark and choppy and the boat was definitely bobbing around. Larpool Viaduct seen from below. Seven if its red brick arches tower above us in Victorian splendour with a backdrop of trees angling up towards a pale grey sky.

Yesterday’s walk was to Robin Hood’s Bay, cool & overcast; today’s was Mulgrave Woods & old castle, with a hooring wind following us along the beach on the way back. Difficult to get a decent pic as they were SO fast, but the sandmartins were very busy flying around us on the beach. Lovely to see.
A field of blue flowers with the odd white one; gloomy grey skyThe ruined Mulgrave old castle against a backdrop of trees framed with wildflowers and dry grass in the foreground A bleak looking stony beach, choppy white waves barrelling into the shore and a grey sky. It all looks very cold and hazy with sea spray and ozoneA bird with forked tail and angled wings flies just above the brown sand at the bottom of the pic; a grey sea with choppy white waves rushes towards us. After a dull start it turned into a perfect walking day today - pleasant, slight breeze, sunny but not too sunny. Over 14 miles in total so there will be jam doughnuts tonight 😁
Blue sky with a swirl of wispy cloud above a scene of fields golden with ripening cereal crops. There’s scrubby grass and wildflowers directly in front of us as we stand at the top of the cliff; the cliff can be seen sloping away gently to the right, it’s grassy but I wouldn’t like to try rolling down it.

And for those of us NOT watching that thing with the ball, here’s a nice view at the back of where we’re staying for a week
Looking across a hedge with a spindly tree to the left, there’s a big field and more trees, then a small wood and even more fields beyond that. It’s a bit cloudy but some blue peeking through.

🎶I like big butts and I cannot lie🎶 Pretty sure these boys are half hippo.
Let’s just say we’re looking over a wire fence at the back ends of two of three big boy cows standing together on a patch of compacted earth in a paddock. They appear to have had butt lifts - these boys are RIPPED.
Beyond the paddock can be seen the side of the road bridge that crosses the small river that runs alongside it.The front end of the three big boys. Two have shiny black coats and slightly grumpy faces (with whatchoo lookin’ at expressions), the third has a black coat with greyish brown dapples on it, as if it’s been splashed with spots of muddy rain and is looking slightly less annoyed. They’re standing on a patch of compacted earth in a paddock. Behind the paddock can be seen the roof of a gym in the nearby small retail park.

Dreich today so not many walk pics (Runswick Bay to Whitby). If you look VERY closely at the last photo you might just make out a hare belting off into the distance (we saw two, they were beautiful). And I didn’t manage to get a pic of the sweet little bright-eyed vole that I almost trod on 😱 x
Gloomy grey sky over dull green fields and shrubs on the cliff top and a grey sea below. It looks wet and it was.Coos (several black and white ones and a toffee coloured one) sheltering in a field behind a fence under a small tree that has a bonsai shape. Looking across scrubby grass with a few wind-beaten wild flowers (one pink, the rest are like large daisies) towards a patch of green field and beyond that to the sea. The coastline curves into the distance but is fogged by low cloud and rain.A footpath leads away from us through the left hand edge of a green field, with longer grass to the left and a large bush (hawthorn maybe) in an oddly lopsided shape also on the left. If you zoom in on the path to the right of the bush there’s a mottled brown figure loping away from us - this is a very healthy looking hare making its escape from the STRANGERS. Another had darted off into the field to the right.

We don't usually see each others headers. Here's mine. Quote post with yours.
A footpath running ahead of us through a tunnel of trees and grass. A man in sunglasses, short-sleeved shirt and shorts (which are similar colours to the surrounding plants and trees in the pic but in real life aren’t as green - as if his clothing has taken on chameleon qualities) is walking ahead of us and has just turned his head and shoulders as if to look at something to his right. He might’ve heard a bird or an animal or be looking out to the view on the right. Or maybe he was turning to listen to something I said (unlikely).

Even with the tide fully in, there’s plenty of beach to go around.
Looking towards Whitby with our back to Sandsend (harbour just about visible sticking out to sea), there’s a big sky with dramatic clouds; brown sand, calm sea with just a lacy trim of froth, and a bit of cliff side to the right. And turning 180° to the other picture, looking towards Sandsend, the sky is still big with slightly less dramatic clouds; brown sand, calm sea with just a lacy trim of froth, and a bit of cliff side to the left.
