Could be! Butt he exit poll doesn't really show that. 42% of L voters voted from M in 2022. I would guess that their decline has more to do with (1) being in power and (2) immigration and crime weren't top issues this election.

In Uppsala, the political landscape is divided between pro-tram parties and anti-tram parties. They've started building the tramlines but there are still parties against it. Looks like the pro-tram parties might need to work with an anti-tram party after the election results.

So who "won" the Swedish election? Narratives after parliamentary elections are hard. The center right gained support but will lose power, and the Social Democrats lost support but will gain power. The radical right Sweden Democrats are the clear loser, losing support and power.

According to the exit poll 42% of Liberal Party supporters voted for Moderates (main center right party) in 2022. Only 30% of the voters in 2026 voted for L in 2022. Their endorsement of the radical right Sweden Democrats in the next government was very controversial within the party.

It is going to be genuinely hard for the Swedish opposition to build a government which The Left Party (most economically left wing) and the center party (most economically right wing) will accept.

One of my pet peeves is looking for country level explanations for global trends. I am no expert but I don't think Norway doing X in 2022 or France changing policy Y in 2019 can explain these global declines across a diverse set of countries.
