Where I am in fundamental agreement with you is that whatever the Trump movement is about, it's not about economics. I understand that people get upset when their inflation is higher, when inflation is not high. But that is not why people have come to Trump, and of course Trump hasn't even attempted to try to solve their problem anyway, and they don't care.
They came for the White Supremacy, I would say, and in many cases the male supremacy, because I think that also was why Trump picked up more black and Hispanic votes. I think they were overwhelmingly male, and it was the whole response to MeToo, etc.
It is basically, to put a technical term on it, bigotry that he was selling and that they were liking, and as you've said a hundred times, which is true, it was really because his enemies were their enemies. They knew that he would go after their enemies and do whatever. One part of which, I agree with you, was in some cases people who were enthusiastic about the idea of political violence.
But the big picture is the one that I think that the Democratic Party has been missing. Now, I don't like to tell parties what works politically because usually politicians know better than I do, but since the Democratic Party's not doing very well anyway, they've been operating on the assumption that this is bread and butter, kitchen table issues, when in fact, it is actually about race, religion, etc.
Now, there is a problem in that, which is that you can't triangulate that, well, you shouldn't triangulate it, and I sometimes fear that the Democratic Party does triangulate that a little bit, that they are trying to not offend the White Supremacists out there so that they have a chance at getting their vote.
So, if what I'm saying is true and what you believe is true, there's no easy answer for the Democratic Party. They have represented the rights of minorities. They are the party that represents the rights of minorities. Are they going to change that?
So I agree with you fundamentally that what Trump's voters are in it for is what he's going to do to the people they hate.
