Size of 140 football fields now Hundreds evacuated. Large areas of heathland habitat destroyed. Dartford Warblers, Woodlark, Nightjars etc. News reporter described Nightjars flying over the area. Climate change is rapidly outpacing conservation. It will only get worse. 🤷‍♂️🙄 #ukbirding

This is for all the working class kids with SEND who grew up in social housing without a father, were shelved by the education system, didn’t go to university, dabbled in unsavoury things and got addicted to some, whose mental health hit rock bottom and were written off by most people. Solidarity.

Imagine if we lived in an alternate reality where we had an event called 'Birdfair' that promoted high carbon travel in a climate emergency, and everyone shared their pictures from the event, but there were no birds, just people promoting themselves.

Climate change will be appearing across this year’s Birdfair site. You can catch up with it in all the marquees, talks & events, & while perusing the ubiquitous very-high-carbon holiday stands. 🤷‍♂️🙄 Heed the heat health warning - hydrate, factor 50 & get a nice wide-brimmed hat. Or stay home.

Two new moths for the garden last night in Mere Wainscot and Pempelia palumbella (Heather Knot-horn). Into the low 600’s in what will almost certainly be my last year trapping here. #norfolkmoths #teammoth

you follow heron habits, meeting where the light levels to stare at reflections on water & what moves across it (little grebe smuggles at least 1 passenger past) - raspberries are on the way & dogrose in full flower 1/2

See, a proper book, (little book, but a proper one) with an ISBN number and everything. Cover reveal and ordering details coming soon-ish. And yes, there is an-anti piracy, anti LLM curse embedded in the text. It is Hookland – you'd expect nothing less.
Proof of the title page of the book 'Hookland Fragments, Volume 1: Remembering Differently' by David Southwell. Also includes text warning of a curse to book pirates.

Some of my happiest European butterfly-watching moments over the years have come exploring the countryside of North Greece, finding new sites for the likes of Large Copper, Sandy Grizzled Skipper, Iolas Blue and Freyer's Purple Emperor. I can't wait to return in 2027 with @mariposanature.bsky.social

The concern of exhibitors & influencers regarding the climate crisis seems to come a distant second to the personal financial benefit they get from their public relationship to the natural world. Conservation orgs are scared shitless of “politics” or upsetting members as the climate breaks down.

Great Prominent (Peridea anceps). I’ve said it many times, but I love the prominent family of moths. I had Great, Pale and Iron in the moth trap yesterday. A great and prominent return for #mothsonmyfinger
A bulky moth clings to the tip of a human finger. The moth is fluffy, green-grey in colour, and has black, yellow and rusty-brown markings, which make it look a bit like tree bark.
