Guerilla accessibility. Clearly NYC hasn't had @iamharaldur.bsky.social sweep through yet.

A healthy "expectation vs reality" mindset. If a case study looks straight out of a bootcamp asset template, then I'll dig in to see if they can frame the constraints, collaboration challenges, and systemic challenges they faced. Otherwise it's a harsh awakening to work in corporate bureaucracy.

Imagine trying to parse this headline in 2015
"Grimes says son X Æ A-Xii should not be in public like this after learning Elon Musk brought him to oval office"

Today a front end dev told me my mustache has "gained a lot of margin and padding" since he last saw me. I... think... that's a compliment?

I'm grateful that my colleagues, my company's policies, and my city mostly seem to affirm my values in a safe bubble. But losing any of those things would make it even harder to continue speaking up.

Side note: I had to edit so much of this down to fit in one skeet. Character limits are a big reason why the internet doesn't grasp nuance (like sex vs gender). C'mon @bsky.app, we have the technology. Give us more characters to work with.

The fine print is so much worse than I thought. I'm here for all my non-cis, non-binary, trans friends. The bureaucratic mess, the danger, the betrayal of your own govt. I hold my breath the legal battles ahead but I won't change how I treat my fellow humans. www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

Okay, I'm weighing in on the Meta fact-checking decision. You can start from a neutral position, but fact-checking features are a one-way design pattern. Can you ever really put that toothpaste back in the tube? open.substack.com/pub/techinch...

That said, we all know that the absence of design is still design. Walking away won't bring us bliss in ignorance. People change, circumstances change, and UX design adapts to meet people where they're at, even if that takes us to new, salty, cynical places.

The UX Trends 2025 from @uxcollective.bsky.social is bleak, but it shouldn't be a shock. It's not a 2024 problem. If you've been participating in the commercial internet and didn't notice this enshittification bubbling for years, you haven't been using a critical enough lens. trends.uxdesign.cc
