The artwork is an oil painting titled The Turn in the Road at Auvers (also known as The Village Road, Auvers), created by the French Post-Impressionist painter Paul Cézanne around 1873.
Artist: Paul Cézanne (1839–1906), often called the "father of modern art" for his influence on 20th-century movements like Cubism.Style: This piece reflects Cézanne's early experimentation with Impressionism under the guidance of Camille Pissarro. It features short, broken brushstrokes and a vibrant palette to capture light and atmosphere. Subject: The scene depicts a winding road leading past a cluster of cottages with distinctive red and thatched roofs in Auvers-sur-Oise, a village frequented by many Impressionist artists.Composition: The painting is noted for its focus on structural geometry—using the road and buildings to guide the viewer’s eye through the landscape.

Had some fun in my sketchbook today. It started with a little sketch I did while walking the dog and turned into sunflower fun. #sketchbook #drawing #painting #landscape #naturepainting #art
Four panels from my sketchbooks. Top left is a plein air sketch of a bench next to water and lots of warm green trees in the sunshine. Top right is a single sunflower. Bottom left is the same bench by the water scene but painted in my sketchbook. The bottom right is a double spread of a field of bright sunflowers under heavy grey flowers.

Someone said to me, "I'm sorry but I got your book from a library." Nobody should ever apologise for that. You read my book! That's brilliant! I grew up hanging out in libraries and the idea of a world without them fills me with dread. Without libraries, authors, like readers, will only suffer.

Was just discussing with a writer friend the weird headspace of leaving a piece to compost for a bit. Not working on a thing to make it better is often a necessary but odd part of the creative process. You gotta let it sit so you can come back with fresh eyes.
