Occasional reminder that there’s no, “it’s too late, its over” for anthropogenic climate change. Every molecule of CO2 that doesn’t go into the atmosphere makes a difference. Preventing 0.1 degree of warming makes a difference. Every bit of climate resilience we build together makes a difference.

Always an honour to judge the RTÉ Sport Awards and very grateful for the opportunity. A very, very tough year I wouldn’t wish on my own enemy to judge. Goujons and no gladrags for this year for me!

Writing was on the wall a little bit with Gleeson’s FAI contract. I always felt they should’ve chased Pia Sundhage before she joined Switzerland. Casey Stoney available too 👀 YOLO, FAI!

And the fact the immediate concern is seeing the momentum of support slide if they don’t qualify for major tournaments irks me and highlights the mad inequalities between men and women’s sports. This should be a wake up call to establish an u20s team and start bridging the gaps

Post mortem later but what this team have done to promote women’s sports is exceptional. The fact we have two sporting icons called Katie who have pushed the boundaries. It was not to be tonight and there will be massive regrets naturally. Kudos to Wales, just more clinical on the night

Not to be dramatic or anything but it literally is now or never for the Irish WNT tonight against Wales. Gotta balance the conservatism with some serious potent attacks. Literally praying for the right result!

When the HSE wouldn’t let me leave Crumlin’s children’s hospital as there wasn’t adequate support in our local community, it was a batch of parents/people around Crumlin who donated supplies to get me home to Millstreet. It was a teachable moment I’ll never forget. Despite having nothing they all

Isn’t it that kinda snobby, dismissive “we’re above them” attitude from Jennifer Carroll MacNeill that enabled people like Gerry Hutch to get a nice stranglehold over those who were neglected by government? I’m not a Hutch apologist for that matter #GE24

There is very little difference between US cable news and the embrace debate ethos on sports TV. Producers set up the conflict with the talent booking. Everyone gets their takes in. You try to “win” the arguement. It’s all monetized. And the public gets fucked over because we all get dumber.

Genuinely wondering if disability was a topic on any of the surveys/exit polls or was it lumped in with healthcare (which is shameful!). Maybe it’s individualistic of me but thought it cropped up more frequently than last votes.

Richard Boyd Barrett stating the obvious that the left alliance needs to happen. Last 2 elections prove there’s not a huge appetite for the right but the desire for change is there. Put egos aside and focus on the common areas rather than the division.

This is all i've asked for in this debate. Trans women's bodies are not the same as cis men and comparing cis men and cis women's athletic abilities is useless in the trans athlete debate.
Lead researcher Professor Yannis Pitsiladis told Outsports “the main takeaway message is the requirement of international federations (and their “experts”) to treat trans women very differently to cis men.”

Pitsiladis is on the Medical and Scientific Commission of the International Olympic Committee, which helped to fund the research via a grant.

He added: “It follows that research conducted comparing biological men to biological women is almost irrelevant in this debate and evidence from such comparisons should not be used to inform policy as is the case by many “armchair professors” advocating the default ban position.

Even in 2014 you wouldn't imagine watching an Irish women's team in an European qualifier and hours later watching Irish players starring in an #AFLW Grand Final. Not sure we appreciate the strides women's sport is making.

People who are new to writing alt text sometimes feel they must describe every detail, and then get overwhelmed by this pressure. Imagine a large crowd at a football game: you are not expected to describe every single person in a crowd in detail. This would be nearly impossible.

Still thinking about this part of @carlkinsella.bsky.social’s column, as Simon Harris & co. pretend that he’s only had one single mare of an interaction with the public. The clip does him zero favours, fair play to the woman who continued to make her point despite his snarky remark 🥺
Screenshot from Carl Kinsella’s Journal.ie Surrealing in the Years about Simon Harris’ scolding of the public:

This week, in footage captured by journalist Richard Chambers, Harris was seen in conversation with a woman who raised the issue of people in their 60s and 70s losing their homes to vulture funds. The woman, whose tone is polite throughout, makes the assertion that RTÉ don't discuss this matter, at which point Harris cuts across to say: "I think there's a microphone right beside you that says RTÉ on it".
It was a pointless and childish interjection.
Harris knows well that there's a world of difference between a news organisation covering something to the public's satisfaction and a news organisation accidentally picking up something on one of their mics because a member of the public had the temerity to ask the Taoiseach about it.
