New: attorneys for U.S. citizen Debbie Brockman announced today that she's filing Federal Tort Claims Act claims against the govt. over her 10/10/2025 arrest by federal immigration agents in Chicago. Brockman, who last October worked for WGN, is now seeking $10M in damages.
Text of Debbie Brockman's FTCA claim rider, alleging she suffered battery, assault, false arrest, false imprisonment and other damages at the hands of federal immigration agents in Chicago last October.Image text:

DEBBIE BROCKMAN, UNJUSTLY DETAINED BY FEDERAL AGENTS DURING OPERATION MIDWAY BLITZ FILES $10 MILLION CLAIM AGAINST FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

CHICAGO, IL (June 2, 2026) – On Tuesday, Debbie Brockman, a United States citizen who was detained by federal agents during last fall’s surge in federal immigration enforcement activity known as “Operation Midway Blitz” filed a Federal Tort Claims Act claim against the federal government, a precursor to filing a lawsuit.

The claim alleges that on October 10, 2025, Brockman—who was employed as a producer at local television station—was walking to a bus stop as part of her morning commute to work when federal agents accosted her, tackling her and violently throwing her to the ground, battering her and exposing her buttocks, before handcuffing her and throwing her into a van. Brockman was humiliated and terrified that she would be killed. She was detained for approximately six hours without any legal justification before being released without charges. She was traumatized by the ordeal and suffers from anxiety and depression as a result of it.Image text:

The incident gained significant media attention last fall during a turbulent period that has already resulted in multiple lawsuits against the federal government for alleged violations of the rights of citizens and non-citizens alike.

Brockman asserts claims for assault and battery, false imprisonment, false arrest, and intentional infliction of emotional distress and requests $10,000,000 in damages.

Said Brockman, “It’s horrific that a government agency supposedly established to keep America safe is terrorizing communities, killing people, and violently targeting individuals they assume are not citizens. We are not safe with these armed, masked agents lurking in our neighborhoods showing little to no regard towards the lives of the people who live here.”

Brockman further emphasized that “[t]his assault has profoundly impacted my life on a day to day basis, leaving me uncertain of my future, my neighbors’ futures, and quite frankly the future of the United States.”

Brad Thomson of the People’s Law Office, one of Brockman’s attorneys, stated: “The outrageous actions of the federal agents who attacked Ms. Brockman demonstrate that they believe they can terrorize our communities and snatch our neighbors off the streets with impunity.” Nora Snyder, one of Brockman’s other attorneys from People’s Law Office stated, “Ms. Brockman is pursuing legal action to send a message that the federal government can and will be held accountable for its lawless behavior.”

DEFENDANTS’ MOTION AND APPLICATION FOR
ATTORNEYS’ FEES AND LITIGATION EXPENSES
PURSUANT TO THE “HYDE AMENDMENT”, 18 U.S.C. § 3006A
Defendants Michael Rabbitt, Katherine Marie Abughazaleh, Andre Martin,
and Brian Straw (collectively, “Defendants”), by and through their respective
undersigned counsel, and pursuant to the Hyde Amendment, 18 U.S.C. § 3006A, and
the provisions of the Equal Access to Justice Act, 28 U.S.C. § 2412 (“EAJA”), hereby
move and submit this application for the payment of their attorneys’ fees and
litigation expenses in this case. The government’s misconduct before the grand jury,
which compelled the U.S. Attorney to dismiss the remaining charges in the
superseding information on May 21, 2026, shocks the conscience. The efforts to cover
up that misconduct are arguably worse. This wide-ranging misconduct, both outside
of and before the Court, cast serious doubts on the government’s prior
representations, including the lack of any outside influence and direction fromWashington D.C. in bringing these charges, which raises concerns beyond the
problematic presentation of the case to the grand jury and subsequent cover-up.1 The
law provides a remedy for those, like Defendants here, who are subject to this type of
vexatious, bad faith, and frivolous litigation.
Even though the complete factual record concerning the prosecution of
Defendants and the reasons for the sudden dismissal must still be developed, due to
the Hyde Amendment’s 30-day filing window, Defendants file this Motion now to
preserve their claims.2 As such, Defendants expressly reserve the right to amend and
supplement this Motion, particularly as their investigation into the government’s misconduct—whether currently exposed or as yet unknown—remains ongoing and
also because this Court has indicated it intends to conduct further hearings on the
misconduct.

Jesse Jackson Jr. is running again for Congress. He was convicted of stealing $750,000 in campaign $$ for personal use, buying gold-plated Rolexes & Michael Jackson's hat. He says he's a new man, but Facebook posts show him justifying his actions & hinting at a pardon. prospect.org/2025/12/11/c...
But his Facebook posts since he was convicted reveal a man who consistently downplays and justifies his crimes, showing a lack of remorse and reflection.

In 2018, Jackson weighed in on Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-NY) struggles to afford an apartment in D.C., writing on Facebook: “This is what happens. Then when you have kids and they need to attend decent schools in DC and you want to have a life while serving, guess what? You start calling everything you do a campaign expense.”

Jackson went on to justify his spending of campaign contributions: “A life long vow of poverty, I did not take for me or my family. [W]hen you truly represent people you have a lot of personal standards that you have to maintain and they are expensive.”This August, he shared a report that President Trump was considering pardoning Diddy, the former rapper who has been accused of sexual misconduct and sex trafficking. “I do not believe Democrats can compete with Trump’s use of the pardon power for high celebrity and high visible black men. It shows Trump’s willingness to do something that no Democrat will do,” he added in a comment under the post.

Pardons have been top of Jackson’s mind for years. In 2022, he posted: “Trump considers pardons for Capitol rioters. Biden remains silent on Pardons for 77 million debt paid felons.” And in 2023: “Dear President Biden, Hunter needs a full presidential pardon, but don’t we all? Especially if we have paid our debt to society in full?”

Most of the hearing was routine. At one point, however, Straw's attorney, Christopher Parente, lodged a largely symbolic objection over his client having to turn in his passport, calling him a "boring suburban dad" and saying his whole reason for going to the protest in the first place included objecting to the government checking people's passports and papers.
Parente said it wasn't fair for Straw "to sit here now and ask him to turn his passport over to the government for no reason other than they think they can," adding that "landscapers arrested by ICE cannot stand up to the government."
"Mr. Straw can, and your Honor can, too," Parente said.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Sheri Mecklenburg said the passport was about bond conditions, not about what ICE is doing on the streets, and that defendants have turned in their passports "in every case I've had for 19 years."
After McShain decided Straw did not have to turn in his passport, Mecklenburg said she'd drop the requirement for all defendants to ensure Straw was not receiving special treatment.
