jim @jmsdirt.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Kid Rock and Eminem are on a track together which would’ve made me happy in 1998 but is sad now. 000
jim @jmsdirt.bsky.social · 02/09/2026Album of the Day #245 The English Beat - Special Beat Service (1982) Great music to pull you out of a bad day. Relentlessly upbeat and no matter what the song is about the tunes themselves feel and sound good. You can’t help but nod your head and smile. 110

jim @jmsdirt.bsky.social · 27/08/2026Album of the Day #238 Pancho Morris - Great Again (2018) Spooky modern western storytelling. Not spooky in a ghouls and goblins way but like it’s haunted. By ghosts from the past, the world that we currently live in or the uncertainty of the future. Haunted by all of it. 100
jim @jmsdirt.bsky.social · 25/08/2026Album of the Day # 237 Glass Elevator - Universvm Gloria (2012) I would describe these as happy go lucky sad songs. Are we struggling in a world that is cold and uncaring? Yes. Are we dead? Not yet. Do we wish we were? Sometimes. Are we gonna make it happen? Not today. 100
jim @jmsdirt.bsky.social · 25/08/2026Album of the Day # 236 Corrine Bailey Rae - Black Rainbows (2023) Not to give y’all too much of a look at how the sausage is made for these posts but this is the list of things I wrote down while listening to this album: “bizarre frantic rocking disco to harsh static lounge club hypnotism”. 100

jim @jmsdirt.bsky.social · 24/08/2026Album of the Day # 235 Divinyls - What A Life! (1985) This feels like the quintessential 80’s album. It hits all the notes, it’s synthsy, dancey and there are times that it’s really heavy rock. The drums sound huge and the production feels massive. Super catchy and just a lot of fun to listen to. 100
jim @jmsdirt.bsky.social · 22/08/2026Album of the Day # 234 Black Devil - Disco Club (1978) This albums was hypnotic and distorting to listen to. It felt unreal, so over the top and borderline cartoonish it feels like it’s out of a movie. 100
jim @jmsdirt.bsky.social · 22/08/2026Album of the Day # 233 TSOL - Dance With Me (1981) This album was a lot more fun than I thought it would be. It was raw and fast and furious like you’d expect but it also had a weird kind of whimsy to it. They were really having fun with this. 110
jim @jmsdirt.bsky.social · 20/08/2026Album of the Day #232 Ethel Meserve - The Milton Abandonment (1997) It’s weird, I want to say that this album feels like an onslaught but I think that word is too aggressive, or maybe the music is not violent enough for that terminology. 100
jim @jmsdirt.bsky.social · 20/08/2026I finished Fights! By Scott McClanahan this morning and there are parts of this book I’m going to think about forever. 000
jim @jmsdirt.bsky.social · 19/08/2026Album of the Day #231 Life Without Buildings - Any Other City (2001) Feels like summers over but fall isn’t here yet. Like you’re almost to where you’re going but you’re not there yet, the road is still open, the path can still change. The album feels like an exploration of, well, everything. 110
jim @jmsdirt.bsky.social · 18/08/2026Album of the Day # 230 Norah Jones - Feels Like Home (2004) If you were to create a montage of the best moments of your life, the happiest moments, the summer days and slow motion scenes of children laughing in a field, this would be the music that you’d put in the background. 100
jim @jmsdirt.bsky.social · 17/08/2026Album of the Day #229 Vision of Disorder - self titled (1996) Really heavy album. Heavy riffs, catchy hooks. The guitar on this really sounds good, it’s melodic and when it goes hard it really fucking goes hard. Feels like getting punched in the face. 100
jim @jmsdirt.bsky.social · 16/08/2026Album of the Day # 228 Janet Jackson - Control (1986) Okay. So, bangers? All bangers? An infinite supply of bangers? Even the slow jams were bangers? There was nothing about this album that was not a banger. 100
jim @jmsdirt.bsky.social · 15/08/2026Album of the Day # 227 Vic Chesnutt - At The Cut (2009) Some of the most painful stuff I’ve ever listened to. Songs by a man that intimately knows the worst of himself, doesn’t shy away from it but is grappling with accepting it. It is raw and honest to the point that it is difficult to listen to. 100
jim @jmsdirt.bsky.social · 14/08/2026Album of the Day # 226 Pageninetynine - Document 7 (2001) This album plays out like a dance with aggression. Like it doesn’t always fill go there but it kind of teases you with it and pushes you out and pulls you in as the record goes on. 100
jim @jmsdirt.bsky.social · 13/08/2026Album of the Day # 225 Insides - Euphoria (1993) This album feels like your in some kind of post-industrial wasteland BUT you’re really happy. It’s like a futuristic hellscape that is all sunshine and rainbows which makes it a really fun thing to listen to. 100
jim @jmsdirt.bsky.social · 13/08/2026Album of the Day # 224 The Byrds - Sweetheart Of The Rodeo (1968) I have been blessed with an abundance of masterpieces this year but this one has to be high up on the list. One of the best (the best?) country albums that I’ve ever heard. 100
jim @jmsdirt.bsky.social · 12/08/2026Album of the Day # 223 Dead Boys - Young, Loud And Snotty (1977) This album is a straight up ripper. Complete masterpiece. ‘Sonic Reducer’ is a perfect track one I don’t know if a better track one exists. Grabs you right from the start and never lets you go. 100
jim @jmsdirt.bsky.social · 21/05/2026Album of the Day #140 Métal Urbain - Les Hommes Morts Sont Dangereux (1981) This album was so damn cool. Basically it’s all the best parts of early/proto punk rock but also they use a drum machine (a very much “of it’s era” drum machine) instead of a drummer and very weird but fitting synth parts. 110

jim @jmsdirt.bsky.social · 01/05/2026Album of the Day #119 Tom Waits - Mule Variations (1999) This album is like you’re sitting alone at a bar and a stranger walks in and sits next to you. You two proceed to have the most profound, life changing conversation you’ve ever had. You go to the bathroom and come back, he’s gone. 110

jim @jmsdirt.bsky.social · 27/04/2026Album of the Day #113 Bloodywood - Nu Delhi (2025) This was a lot of fun to listen to. The blending of traditional Indian instruments with chug chug chug metal riffs worked really well. It seems like a clash of sounds but the intricate melodies of both styles play off each other beautifully. 100
jim @jmsdirt.bsky.social · 26/04/2026Album of the Day #112 MisterWives - Our Own House (2015) This album was kinda a mystery to me. It’s definitely a pop album but it’s wrapped in all these different sounds. It’s got rock elements, funk, disco and some 80s vibes but it feels new. 110
jim @jmsdirt.bsky.social · 25/04/2026Album of the Day #111 Kraftwerk - The Man Machine (1978) WE ARE THE FUCKING ROBOTS. jim @jmsdirt.bsky.social · 21/04/2026Album of the Day # 109 Sabrina Carpenter - Short n’ Sweet (2024) DO YOU WANT TO FEEL GOOD? Listen to this album. It was so much fun, so bright and funky. Masterful pop music. It’s weird it took me most of this album to really get a read on it. 100
jim @jmsdirt.bsky.social · 20/04/2026Album of the Day #108 BONES, grayera - WITHERED (2022) If you like magi and knights, beats that knock, sad boy music and a variety of rap styles then this is the album for you. It’s a combination that you don’t know you need until you hear it. Incredibly fun to listen to it. 100
jim @jmsdirt.bsky.social · 19/04/2026Album of the day #107 Title Fight - Shed (2011) This is everything a perfect punk album should be. It is energetic and emotional and sincere and it makes you feel nostalgic even if it’s your first time listening to it. My only real beef with the album is that it is so short. 110
jim @jmsdirt.bsky.social · 19/04/2026Album of the Day #106 Televangel - Anthropocene Blues (2018) This music makes you feel like you’re going to have a good day. It is cinematic. It can be the soundtrack to a movie where you are maybe not the star but at least a semi-main character (being the star doesn’t seem like much fun to me). 100
jim @jmsdirt.bsky.social · 18/04/2026Album of the Day #105 Glass Animals - Zaba (2014) Listening to this feels like you are on acid in the jungle. Not in a scary way but in a way that it feels slightly overwhelming but also like you’re on a fun ride but also you don’t know when or how it’s going to end. There’s colors everywhere. 100

It feels like an updated take on something you’re familiar with. It’s the soul music and doo wop you’d heard when you’re a kid with new little twists. 100
jim @jmsdirt.bsky.social · 12/04/2026Album of the Day #101 The Dickies - Stukas Over Disneyland (1983) PUNK ROCK BEACH BOYS. This was an insane amount of fun to listen to. Just bops after bops.
