🛩️🤵‍♂️ Also I don't think many filmmakers these days would build tension with such reverence and time as Hitch did in the crop duster sequence. 🤫 Unless it was right at the beginning of the film and you could utilize the opening credits for it. #NorthByNorthwest 📽️🎞️
Frame from the thiller 'North by Northwest' (1959). Wide shot of a two lane highway crossing a dry plain with empty fields. There's a 1954 GMC PD 4501 Greyhound Scenicruiser stopped at a bus stop in the left side of the road in the middle of the frame with a lone man standing on the side of the road between the bus and the bus stop sign.Frame from the thiller 'North by Northwest' (1959). 🛩️🤵‍♂️ I had forgot how light in tone #NorthByNorthwest actually was at times (which shouldn't be so surprising given Cary Grant's involvement). 😲 Definitely a bit too long. And the film's conclusion isn't quite up to par with the set-up we're served with IMO. Still enjoyable thriller nonetheless. 📽️🎞️
Poster for the thiller 'North by Northwest' (1959). Directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Starring Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint, James Mason, Jessie Royce Landis, Leo G. Carroll, Josephine Hutchinson and Martin Landau.

On the top right corner of the poster with a white background the text "Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer presents Cary Grant Eva Marie Saint James Mason in Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest". The film's title in red, the rest in brown letters. On the poster a collage of Mount Rushmore with Alfred Hitchcock's face on the right next to the four US presidents' faces, a middle-aged man (Cary Grant as Roger Thornhill) wearing a suit running away from a biplane, the same man embracing a younger woman (Eva Marie Saint as Eve Kendall), the aforementioned man holding another man wearing a suit with a knife sticking out of his back and Alfred Hitchock standing holding a massive cardboard hand under his right arm. The first two and the last three images on the collage is cut by the tagline "Only Cary Grant and Alfred Hitchcock ever gave you so much suspense in so many directions" in brown letters and "so we brought it back" in white underneath.Frame from the thiller 'North by Northwest' (1959). 👷 Scratched this finally off my watch list... Even if I may not think that #OnTheWaterfront is as masterful as a lot of people, I still found it a captivating film. Albeit a bit too melodramatic couple of times. And I do think it would've been better if it didn't have quite as Hollywood ending. 📽️🎞️

It's obvious #Onslaught is trying its darnedest to emulate 80s/90s hard-boiled action films. And bloody, violent and tight (under 90 min) as it is, it still lacks that certain wow factor. 😕 A missed opportunity. You'd be better off watching something like Universal Soldier. 📽️🎞️

In the middle of the poster the tagline "They unleashed their deadliest weapon on us." in red letters. 🩸 Even for early David Cronenberg #Shivers is very cronenberg-esque. Although not so arthousey as a lot of his films tend to be. More akin to pure b-movie exploitation. Acting-wise certainly b-movie-esquely piss-poor. 📽️🎞️
Poster for the Canadian sci-fi horror film 'Shivers' (1975), also known as 'The Parasite Murders' and 'They Came from Within'. Directed by David Cronenberg. Starring Paul Hampton, Alan Migicovsky, Lynn Lowry, Barbara Steele, Susan Petrie, Joe Silver and Fred Doederlein.

On top of the poster on a black background in white letters the tagline "If you think you're not afraid of the dark If you feel nothing can shock you If you say you don't scare easily If you believe you've seen everything THEN SEE...". I may not be a fan of Aki Kaurismäki's films (although I do quite like Mies vailla menneisyyttä/The Man Without a Past) but I'm first to acknowledge that he's one of the greatest humanists and champions of the downtrodden and the working class in cinema history, right up there with Chaplin. 📽️🎞️

🕺💃 It's hardly a secret that I don't particularly care for film musicals, and #SinginInTheRain does not make a rare exception to that rule for me. 🚘 But scary #Christine ain't even if it does admittedly have a couple of genuinely tense moments. It ticks off practically every American high school movie cliché. And it's too slow in its pacing which is why it ends up feeling a bit too long. 📽️🎞️
Frame from the horror film 'Christine' (1983). Five young men standing in an auto shop class room. On the foreground in the left a dark brown haired young man (William Ostrander as Buddy Repperton) wearing a black T-shirt and holding a switchblade in his right hand. A smiling dark brown haired young man (Malcolm Danare as Moochie Welch) wearing also a black T-shirt standing next to him. In the background a dark brown haired young man wearing an army green collared shirt, a brown haired young man (John Stockwell as Dennis Guilder) wearing a grey T-shirt and a grey hoodie and a young man (Steven Tash as Ritchie Trelawney) with shaggy dark brown hair and a grey sweater.Frame from the horror film 'Christine' (1983). Close-up of a brown haired young woman (Alexandra Paul as Leigh Cabot) wearing a yellow shirt with a pink sweater on her shoulders sitting in a high school holding a pencil in her right hand, the rubber end of the pencil is in her mouth. Two male high school students sitting in the background around another table.Frame from the horror film 'Christine' (1983). View from the back seat of a parked 1958 Plymouth Fury. 🚘 I've never been a Stephen King fan, literarywise at least. Which is probably why it's taken this long for me to finally watch #Christine even though it's a John Carpenter movie. 🫣 And I'll grant that it's visually and aesthetically fine looking little horror flick. 📽️🎞️
Poster for the horror film 'Christine' (1983). Based on the 1983 novel of the same name by Stephen King. Directed by John Carpenter. Starring Keith Gordon, John Stockwell, Alexandra Paul, Robert Prosky, Harry Dean Stanton, Christine Belford, Roberts Blossom, William Ostrander, Malcolm Danare and Steven Tash.

On top part of the poster the taglines "How do you kill something that can't possibly be alive?" and "She was born bad. Plain and simple. Somewhere deep on a darkened assembly line. Christine. A '58 Plymouth Fury possessed by Hell. She's taken control of her teenage owner, Arnie. Her previous owner is not alive to warn him. And now she's steering straight for the one person in her way. Arnie's girlfriend, Leigh. The other woman." Both in white letters, the former in block letters. On the poster an image of a 1958 Plymouth Fury (from the front) with its headlights on, light emiting from underneath and behind the car, in darkness. Below the car the film's title in the form "John Carpenter's Christine", the title in stylized red letters with white edges, the rest in white letters.Frame from the horror film 'Christine' (1983). ...at least #Ms45 keeps things tight (clocking under 80 min). And it looks surprisingly good given the film's very meager budget! 😲 Plus the film's got a stunning leading lady in Zoë Lund. 📽️🎞️

Most enjoyable Abel Ferrara film I've ever seen. Female Death Wish. Slightly art housey vigilante exploitation flick. Sure the acting's pretty bad at times. And #Ms45 is anything but subtle, as you'd obviously expect from Ferrara. 🫢 That said... 📽️🎞️
Collage of two posters for the vigilante exploitation film 'Ms. 45' (1981). Directed by Abel Ferrara. Starring Zoë Lund (as Zoë Tamerlis), Albert Sinkys, Darlene Stuto, Helen McGara, Nike Zachmanoglou and Editta Sherman.

On the left a black and purple image of a young woman (Zoë Lund as Thana) with a row of images of the same woman pointing a pistol at the viewer and finally firing it across the larger image's woman's face from one side of the poster to the other. On the woman's chest the film's title in white letters with the tagline "It's no longer a man's world..." on top.

On the left a poster with an illustration of a woman (only the bottom half of her body appearing) wearing a black dress, stockings and high heeled shoes holding a pistol in his right hand standing (with her back to the viewer in the foreground) in a dark New York alleyway. Appearing through the woman's legs in the background a mugger with brown curly hair wearing a black leather jacket and jeans holding a wooden stick in his hands. On the top right corner the tagline "It will never happen again!" in light blue letters. At the bottom of the poster the film's title in slightly tilted light blue letters, with the dot appearing like a bullet hole.Frame from the vigilante exploitation film 'Ms. 45' (1981). Close-up of an armed burglar wearing a black leather jacket (only his left arm and back appearing) threatening a brown haired young woman (Zoë Lund as Thana) sitting on a sofa with a pistol pressed against the side of her head and holding his left hand on top of her mouth.Frame from the vigilante exploitation film 'Ms. 45' (1981). Close-up of a brown haired young woman (Zoë Lund as Thana) wearing a black coat and a black scarf with a purple and yellow stripes pointing a .45 caliber pistol towards the camera.

⚔️🏴‍☠️ I do 🫶 a good swashbuckler and/or pirate movie. And in theory Terence Hill & Bud Spencer would be great leads. But unfortuntely in practice... 🙁 At least when it comes to #IlCorsaroNero. Which is pretty poor effort. Only for the die hard fans of the genre and/or the pair. ☠️ #BlackieThePirate 📽️🎞️
Poster for the Italian swashbuckler pirate film 'Il corsaro nero'/'Blackie the Pirate' (1971). Directed by Enzo Gicca Palli. Starring Terence Hill, Silvia Monti, George Martin, Diana Lorys, Sal Borgese, Monica Randall, Edmund Purdom and Bud Spencer.

On the poster an illustration of a 17th century buccaneer (Terence Hill as Blackie) wearing a black brimmed hat, a jacket, trousers, boots and a cape swinging on a rope while holding a rapier in his right hand. In the background a sea battle between three wooden sailing ships. On the top left corner a black and white illustration of a burly bearded pirate captain (Bud Spencer as Skull). At the bottom the film's title in Italian in red stylized block letters.Frame from the Italian swashbuckler pirate film 'Il corsaro nero'/'Blackie the Pirate' (1971). Two 17th century men facing each other for a sword fight inside a tavern. On the left a brown haired man (Terence Hill as Blackie) wearing a white shirt and a black jacket, trousers, boots, gloves and a cape and on the right a dark haired man (George Martin as Pedro) wearing a dark brown tricorne hat and a cape, a red jacket and trousers and knee high black boots. Both men are holding rapiers in their right hand.Frame from the Italian swashbuckler pirate film 'Il corsaro nero'/'Blackie the Pirate' (1971). A brown haired 17th century man (Terence Hill as Blackie) wearing a white shirt and a black jacket, trousers and a single glove in his right hand is standing with his back against the wall next to a dark brown wooden door surrounded by armed soldiers wearing striped yellow and brown uniforms with a metal cuirass pointing a rapier and pikes at him.

💊💉🚬 Well, that was disappointing. 😐 Not because I thought it was lousy. But #DrugstoreCowboy certainly ain't no Trainspotting or Requiem for a Dream either! But given how people talk about it I definitely expected it to be something special like those aforementioned two, and not so... Average. 📽️🎞️
Poster for the film 'Drugstore Cowboy' (1989). Based on the then-unpublished autobiographical novel of the same name by James Fogle. Directed by Gus Van Sant. Starring Matt Dillon, Kelly Lynch, James LeGros, Heather Graham, James Remar, Max Perlich and William S. Burroughs.

On top of the poster the names of Matti Dillon and Kelly Lynch in black letters with purple dots and edges. On the poster an image of a dark haired man (Matt Dillon as Bob Hughes) wearing a black leather jacket (on the left) embracing a dark brown haired woman (Kelly Lynch as Dianne Hughes) wearing a short black sleeveless dress (on the right) in front of a concrete column with graffiti. Superimposed on their midsection the film's title in large purple block letters with black dots.Frame from the film 'Drugstore Cowboy' (1989). Close-up of a dark haired man (Matt Dillon as Bob Hughes) on a drug high resting his head (on the left side of the frame) against a car window with his eyes clothes. Given how good aesthetically #UnFlic for the most part is, the couple of piss-poor matte paintings, as well as the miniature sequence with the train and the helicopter, do unfortunately stand out like a sore thumb. 🤫 #ACop #DirtyMoney 📽️🎞️
Collage of three frames from the French crime film 'Un flic' (1972).

On top: A black 1963 Dodge Dart parked outside the entrance of a nightclub "Simon's" (on the left) is about to drive off (away from the camera) on a Parisian street. Parked cars on the right side of the street. A poor matte painting of Parisian street with parked and driving cars with Arc de Triomphe in the distance in the background.
In the middle: Three men sitting in an art museum. From left to right: Grey haired older man (Riccardo Cucciolla as Paul Weber) wearing a dark coat, a suit and a tie, a dark brown haired middle-aged man (Richard Crenna as Simon) wearing a grey brimmed hat and a coat, a black tie, a white collared shirt and black gloves holding the handle of an umbrella and a balding dark haired middle-aged man (Michael Conrad as Louis Costa) wearing a beige trenchcoat and grey trousers. A female spectator standing in the background on the left with a moustached guard wearing a black uniform. Poor matte painting of a museum in the background.
At bottom: A miniature of a helicopter hovering above a moving train at night. A man standing at the opened side door of the helicopter.

#UnFlic is no Le Cercle Rouge or Le Samouraï even though it's aesthetically quite similar. The opening bank robbery sequence does unfortunately promise more than what the film ultimately ends up delivering though. But at least it's only 90+ min. #ACop #DirtyMoney 📽️🎞️
Poster for the French crime film 'Un flic' (1972), released as 'A Cop' or 'Dirty Money' in the English speaking world. Directed by Jean-Pierre Melville. Starring Alain Delon, Richard Crenna, Catherine Deneuve, Riccarco Cucciolla, Michael Conrad, Paul Crauchet, Simone Valére and Valérie Wilson.

On the poster a black and white image of a dark haired man (Alain Delon as Commissaire Édouard Coleman) wearing a suit and a tie lighting with a cigarette in his mouth. Next to the man's face on the right side of the poster the film's title in French in large red block letters.Frame from the French crime film 'Un flic' (1972). In the middle of the frame a dark haired male bank teller (facing to the right) wearing a grey blazer, a blue tie and a white collared shirt standing behind a bank counter with slightly raised arms looking down at a pistol that's being pointed at him through the opening in the divider screen. A round glass dome of a lamp in the background on the top left of the frame and a calendar on the wall with a large number 23.Frame from the French crime film 'Un flic' (1972). Slightly angled shot of a ceiling mirror showing a bedroom with a purple floor where a dark haired man (Alain Delon as Commissaire Édouard Coleman) wearing a grey suit and a blonder woman (Catherine Deneuve as Cathy) wearing a light robe are standing embracing each other next to a bed with a brown furry cover. There's a revolver on one of the pillows.
