I still haven't managed to get my hands on the elusive "Vampire Cut" of #InTheHeatOfTheNight. 📽️🎞️
Frame from the film 'In the Heat of the Night' (1967). An African American man (Sidney Poitier as Det. Virgil Tibbs) wearing a dark suit, a striped white and dark brown tie and a white collared shirt holding a wooden stake in his hands (on the left) and a shorter Caucasian man (Rod Steiger as Police Chief Bill Gillespie) wearing a black police uniform and a cap (on the right) standing outside side by side. There's a yellow bulldozer and two parked cars in the background.

Most enjoyable Abel Ferrara film I've ever seen. Female Death Wish. Slightly art housey vigilante exploitation flick. Sure the acting's pretty bad at times. And #Ms45 is anything but subtle, as you'd obviously expect from Ferrara. 🫢 That said... 📽️🎞️
Collage of two posters for the vigilante exploitation film 'Ms. 45' (1981). Directed by Abel Ferrara. Starring Zoë Lund (as Zoë Tamerlis), Albert Sinkys, Darlene Stuto, Helen McGara, Nike Zachmanoglou and Editta Sherman.

On the left a black and purple image of a young woman (Zoë Lund as Thana) with a row of images of the same woman pointing a pistol at the viewer and finally firing it across the larger image's woman's face from one side of the poster to the other. On the woman's chest the film's title in white letters with the tagline "It's no longer a man's world..." on top.

On the left a poster with an illustration of a woman (only the bottom half of her body appearing) wearing a black dress, stockings and high heeled shoes holding a pistol in his right hand standing (with her back to the viewer in the foreground) in a dark New York alleyway. Appearing through the woman's legs in the background a mugger with brown curly hair wearing a black leather jacket and jeans holding a wooden stick in his hands. On the top right corner the tagline "It will never happen again!" in light blue letters. At the bottom of the poster the film's title in slightly tilted light blue letters, with the dot appearing like a bullet hole.Frame from the vigilante exploitation film 'Ms. 45' (1981). Close-up of an armed burglar wearing a black leather jacket (only his left arm and back appearing) threatening a brown haired young woman (Zoë Lund as Thana) sitting on a sofa with a pistol pressed against the side of her head and holding his left hand on top of her mouth.Frame from the vigilante exploitation film 'Ms. 45' (1981). Close-up of a brown haired young woman (Zoë Lund as Thana) wearing a black coat and a black scarf with a purple and yellow stripes pointing a .45 caliber pistol towards the camera.

⚔️🏴‍☠️ I do 🫶 a good swashbuckler and/or pirate movie. And in theory Terence Hill & Bud Spencer would be great leads. But unfortuntely in practice... 🙁 At least when it comes to #IlCorsaroNero. Which is pretty poor effort. Only for the die hard fans of the genre and/or the pair. ☠️ #BlackieThePirate 📽️🎞️
Poster for the Italian swashbuckler pirate film 'Il corsaro nero'/'Blackie the Pirate' (1971). Directed by Enzo Gicca Palli. Starring Terence Hill, Silvia Monti, George Martin, Diana Lorys, Sal Borgese, Monica Randall, Edmund Purdom and Bud Spencer.

On the poster an illustration of a 17th century buccaneer (Terence Hill as Blackie) wearing a black brimmed hat, a jacket, trousers, boots and a cape swinging on a rope while holding a rapier in his right hand. In the background a sea battle between three wooden sailing ships. On the top left corner a black and white illustration of a burly bearded pirate captain (Bud Spencer as Skull). At the bottom the film's title in Italian in red stylized block letters.Frame from the Italian swashbuckler pirate film 'Il corsaro nero'/'Blackie the Pirate' (1971). Two 17th century men facing each other for a sword fight inside a tavern. On the left a brown haired man (Terence Hill as Blackie) wearing a white shirt and a black jacket, trousers, boots, gloves and a cape and on the right a dark haired man (George Martin as Pedro) wearing a dark brown tricorne hat and a cape, a red jacket and trousers and knee high black boots. Both men are holding rapiers in their right hand.Frame from the Italian swashbuckler pirate film 'Il corsaro nero'/'Blackie the Pirate' (1971). A brown haired 17th century man (Terence Hill as Blackie) wearing a white shirt and a black jacket, trousers and a single glove in his right hand is standing with his back against the wall next to a dark brown wooden door surrounded by armed soldiers wearing striped yellow and brown uniforms with a metal cuirass pointing a rapier and pikes at him.

💊💉🚬 Well, that was disappointing. 😐 Not because I thought it was lousy. But #DrugstoreCowboy certainly ain't no Trainspotting or Requiem for a Dream either! But given how people talk about it I definitely expected it to be something special like those aforementioned two, and not so... Average. 📽️🎞️
Poster for the film 'Drugstore Cowboy' (1989). Based on the then-unpublished autobiographical novel of the same name by James Fogle. Directed by Gus Van Sant. Starring Matt Dillon, Kelly Lynch, James LeGros, Heather Graham, James Remar, Max Perlich and William S. Burroughs.

On top of the poster the names of Matti Dillon and Kelly Lynch in black letters with purple dots and edges. On the poster an image of a dark haired man (Matt Dillon as Bob Hughes) wearing a black leather jacket (on the left) embracing a dark brown haired woman (Kelly Lynch as Dianne Hughes) wearing a short black sleeveless dress (on the right) in front of a concrete column with graffiti. Superimposed on their midsection the film's title in large purple block letters with black dots.Frame from the film 'Drugstore Cowboy' (1989). Close-up of a dark haired man (Matt Dillon as Bob Hughes) on a drug high resting his head (on the left side of the frame) against a car window with his eyes clothes. Four undressed people, two men and two women, sitting in a ransacked room. All but one have wrapped themselves in blankets. From left to right: a fair haired young woman (Heather Graham as Nadine) wrapped in a multicoloured squared quilt, a goateed brown haired man (James LeGros as Rick) with a patterned multicoloured blanket wrapped around his waist, a naked brown haired woman (Kelly Lynch as Dianne Hughes) sitting with his feet covering her modesty and smoking a cigarette and dark haired man (Matt Dillon as Bob Hughes) sitting in an armchair covered by a blue and green squared blanket.

#UnFlic is no Le Cercle Rouge or Le Samouraï even though it's aesthetically quite similar. The opening bank robbery sequence does unfortunately promise more than what the film ultimately ends up delivering though. But at least it's only 90+ min. #ACop #DirtyMoney 📽️🎞️
Poster for the French crime film 'Un flic' (1972), released as 'A Cop' or 'Dirty Money' in the English speaking world. Directed by Jean-Pierre Melville. Starring Alain Delon, Richard Crenna, Catherine Deneuve, Riccarco Cucciolla, Michael Conrad, Paul Crauchet, Simone Valére and Valérie Wilson.

On the poster a black and white image of a dark haired man (Alain Delon as Commissaire Édouard Coleman) wearing a suit and a tie lighting with a cigarette in his mouth. Next to the man's face on the right side of the poster the film's title in French in large red block letters.Frame from the French crime film 'Un flic' (1972). In the middle of the frame a dark haired male bank teller (facing to the right) wearing a grey blazer, a blue tie and a white collared shirt standing behind a bank counter with slightly raised arms looking down at a pistol that's being pointed at him through the opening in the divider screen. A round glass dome of a lamp in the background on the top left of the frame and a calendar on the wall with a large number 23.Frame from the French crime film 'Un flic' (1972). Slightly angled shot of a ceiling mirror showing a bedroom with a purple floor where a dark haired man (Alain Delon as Commissaire Édouard Coleman) wearing a grey suit and a blonder woman (Catherine Deneuve as Cathy) wearing a light robe are standing embracing each other next to a bed with a brown furry cover. 🧨⚖️ #CoyoteVsAcme is certainly no Who Framed Roger Rabbit! And far too many gags are admittedly foreseeable, at least if you've grown up watching Looney Tunes cartoons. That said... It still makes absolutely no sense why the suits wanted to originally shelf this for good. 😐📽️🎞️
Poster for the comedy film 'Coyote vs. Acme' (2026). Loosely based on the 1990 The New Yorker magazine article "Coyote v. Acme" by Ian Frazier. Directed by Dave Green. Starring Will Forte, Lana Condor, John Cena, Luis Guzmán, P.J. Byrne and Eric Bauza.

On top of the poster the names of Will Forte, Lana Condor and John Cena in white letters. On the poster an illustration of a large cartoon bomb with a lit fuse being pushed up a hill by a cartoon coyote (Wile E. Coyote). Watching it on top of the hill (on the top right) a long necked cartoon bird (The Road Runner). The film's title in red letters at the bottom right on top of the text "In theatres August 28th" (first half in red, the latter in grey).Frame from the comedy film 'Coyote vs. Acme' (2026). ⛪👓 Released #OnThisDay 40 years ago. A brilliant medieval murder mystery based on Umberto Eco's novel of the same name (which I still haven't for some reason read despite really liking the film 🫣). A must-see for anyone who's into whodunits and/or history. #TheNameOfTheRose 📽️🎞️

Feeling a bit conflicted that #DaredevilBornAgain will end after the upcoming third season. 😕 While I still think that the first Netflix season is one of the best comic book adaptations of all-time, the first reboot season felt basically nothing more than a season long intro for the next. 📺

Dunno if it's just 'cos the latest season is based on one of my favourite #Reacher novels why it ultimately feels disappointing. 🤔 Even if the finale did save it a bit, despite having a couple of pointless gotchas. 🤨 Still too long of a season. Story could've been told in at least 2-3 fewer eps. 📺

Like in so many De Palma films the cinematic influences are clear as a day. Interesting thriller that doesn't unfortunately carry all the way till the end. Flounders once the mystery begins to finally unravel. Nor are some plot twists as surprising as filmmakers probably imagined. 🤫 #Obsession 📽️🎞️
Poster for the psychological thriller 'Obsession' (1976). Directed by Brian De Palma. Starring Cliff Robertson, Geneviève Bujold and John Lithgow.

In the middle of the poster with a yellow background four black figures, two standing side by side, the other two upside down above the others. From the feet of each figure rises towards the corners of the poster black shadowlike illustrations of a man and a woman facing each other. The illustrations are surrounded and superimposed by quotes from film reviews. On the top of the poster (in red) the quote "Like Hitchcock at the top of his form. - Rex Reed, Daily News". On top of the illustrations of the man and the woman the quotes "Exquisite entertainment." - Richard Schickel, Time Magazine", "Unforgettable. See it." - Liz Smith, Cosmopolitan", "Fascinating surprises." - Kathleen Carroll, Daily News" and "A satisfying mystery. - Gene Shalit, NBC-TV" in white. On the left side of the poster in black the quote "An immensely important cinematic work... The film plunges madly into a vortex of emotional fireworks that is likely to leave the audience gasping for breath; it's as good and often better than anything Hitchcock has ever done. I recommend 'Obsession' enthusiastically. - Rex Reed, Daily News" and on the right "Eerie and haunting... unforgettable. See it. - Liz Smith, Cosmopolitan", "Exquisite entertainment. - Richard Schickel, Time Magazine" and "'Obsession' is a mystery that is romantic and weird. Cliff Robertson has not been better and Genevieve Bujold is one of the most gifted actresses around. So let yourself go, wave good-bye to reality and enjoy a satisfying mystery. - Gene Shalit, NBC-TV".Frame from the psychological thriller 'Obsession' (1976). The "Do what the tapes are asking you" task on the latest episode of #TaskmasterNZ. 👏 I do 🫶 a dastardly task like that. It's amazing how we can be so blind at something that's practically staring at us in the face when we're stressed/too focused on something. 😆 #Taskmaster 📺

No idea how old I was when I saw #BugsyMalone on the telly. 🤔 But it's one of those films that I remember fondly from my childhood. And I can still see why it took to me so much back in the day. Just given what a vivid imagination I had as a kid! 📽️🎞️

👨👩👨 It's often surprising what constituted risqué and sensational back in the day. 🤫 Case in point the Finnish triangle drama #KuuOnVaarallinen from the early 60s. So if the relationship between a young woman and a much older man wasn't shocking any more... #PreludeToEcstasy 📽️🎞️

Released #OnThisDay 30 years ago. Hong Kong action director Ringo Lam's Hollywood debut. While #MaximumRisk may be one of the better post-Universal Soldier JCVD films, it's still a run-of-the-mill action thriller. Mostly lacking the frenetic nature of Lam's Hong Kong actioners. 📽️🎞️
