Massive dork, writer of speculative fiction and new fantasy. I enjoy books, film, video games, and music. Dabbling in learning Japanese, I sometimes make noise on an acoustic guitar.

Getting tired of untested vibecoded ports that are just buggy and because no experienced coders are around, they can't fix it? Never fear, as I have listed decomps and recomps done by actual people and it will continue expanding! If you know any, lemme know!

After three years in the docks, the Hooligans video is now free from Youtube jail. You don't need to sign in to watch it, you should no longer have to click through two warnings about how 'ard the game is to watch the vid.

"Ghost in the Shell" (1995) is still a masterpiece. It's one of my formative experiences, a film that made me feel understood by someone else from a different part of this planet. "When I float weightless back to the surface, I'm imagining I'm becoming someone else."

I've finished reading @ldlewiswrites.blacksky.app's "The Year of the Mer" and it was pretty fantastic. The MC (and how everyone reacts to her) is such a breath of fresh air. There are also sections in the novel (in particular in acts 2 and 3) that are magical.

Also, I have to bring up how good the fight choreography is. No flashy action movie nonsense. There's realistic strokes and cuts, "wrestling"/ grappling, and overall the combat is surprisingly good. Also the firearms sound as powerful and scary as they should.

"The Samurai and the Prisoner" (2026) was incredible. A blend of mystery, psychological historical drama, and a stunning exploration of how beliefs and customs shape people. Absolutely masterful.

The music is no joke. I read "Hoichi the Earless" and wondered how "Kwaidan" was going to adapt that. Just wow. It's great running into composers that think in silence and atmosphere as well, not just melody.

"Kwaidan/怪談" (1964) answers the question of how to make interesting adaptations to stories people have heard and read hundreds of times. Answer: by having it look incredible and full of intent. The set design is fantastic. A lot of it is surrealist and dreamlike. Absolutely gorgeous stuff.

"House/ハウス" (1977) feels like a fever dream. Funny, goofy, weird. Full of creative, bizarre sequences. Not a single scene feels like a real place, everything, including the characters, have this altered reality to them. A lot of people will bounce off hard, but those that don't are in for a ride.

I get that a lot of us (myself included) buy video games that then sit unplayed on a backlog for far too long, but Threshold is a fantastic game that's bound to stick with you long after you're done. I *still* think about it, sometimes multiple times a week because of reasons.

I’m learning that the people who gamified paragraphs are having trouble reading books. www.axios.com/2026/08/11/r...

AXIOS

Al has become my reading buddy as I've plowed through my summer book list, helping me keep track of plots and characters, unpack themes, and make sense of wordy, old prose.
• Why it matters: The way many of us actually read books - a few pages before bed, a chapter at the beach, another on a plane - makes it easy to lose the thread. Al can help you pick it back up without starting over.
Ш I really got into using Al while reading James Fenimore Cooper's "The Last of the Mohicans." The text was far too dense for casual vacation reading. My first prompt asked:
• "T'd like a guide as I read The Last of the Mohicans who can help me understand what I've read and where the story is, without giving spoilers or getting ahead of my progress. Can you do this, chapter by chapter?"
• The robot agreed: "Cooper's sentences are long and his diction is archaic."

I didn’t even see this had been announced. I was lead writer on this one! And Saber replaced me with ChatGPT midway through development. All the passenger voices were AI too. Either they changed direction at some point or they’re not disclosing it on Steam

The coolest thing about a book is that another person wrote it. But people are just viewing books as “content” now, and that severely devalues what they represent.

80 & 81 songs packs are back on sale because we a) need money b) want you to have cool commercial use music for $20 itch.io/s/197592/161... (borrowed @chequered.ink's format but its ok cause I told them to post imgflip memes)
this image is of a classic meme which features a highway and a large green sign in the distance showing the path forward and a turn to the right, the path forward is marked with something really bad and the turn to the right is marked "161 ROYALTY FREE AND GOOD SONGS FOR $20" and there is a car steering violently to the right with the tag "YOU, I HOPE", that's it thats the image I hope you enjoyed this description, also the car is blue.

Been reading books on the colonization of the Caribbean by Francisco Moscoso & Sebastián Robiou Lamarche. Learned a lot, fascinating reads. But the most funny/horrific was learning that even French colonial sources of the time period were like "what the FUCK Spain?".
