jmlrivera @jmlrivera.bsky.social · 20/09/2026"Ghost in the Shell" (1995) is still a masterpiece. It's one of my formative experiences, a film that made me feel understood by someone else from a different part of this planet. jmlrivera @jmlrivera.bsky.social · 28/08/2026I've finished reading @ldlewiswrites.blacksky.app's "The Year of the Mer" and it was pretty fantastic. The MC (and how everyone reacts to her) is such a breath of fresh air. There are also sections in the novel (in particular in acts 2 and 3) that are magical. 131

jmlrivera @jmlrivera.bsky.social · 23/08/2026"The Samurai and the Prisoner" (2026) was incredible. A blend of mystery, psychological historical drama, and a stunning exploration of how beliefs and customs shape people. Absolutely masterful. 110
jmlrivera @jmlrivera.bsky.social · 16/08/2026"Kwaidan/怪談" (1964) answers the question of how to make interesting adaptations to stories people have heard and read hundreds of times. Answer: by having it look incredible and full of intent. The set design is fantastic. A lot of it is surrealist and dreamlike. Absolutely gorgeous stuff. 121
jmlrivera @jmlrivera.bsky.social · 16/08/2026"House/ハウス" (1977) feels like a fever dream. Funny, goofy, weird. Full of creative, bizarre sequences. Not a single scene feels like a real place, everything, including the characters, have this altered reality to them. A lot of people will bounce off hard, but those that don't are in for a ride. 010
jmlrivera @jmlrivera.bsky.social · 12/08/2026I get that a lot of us (myself included) buy video games that then sit unplayed on a backlog for far too long, but Threshold is a fantastic game that's bound to stick with you long after you're done. I *still* think about it, sometimes multiple times a week because of reasons. 020

jmlrivera @jmlrivera.bsky.social · 30/07/2026Been reading books on the colonization of the Caribbean by Francisco Moscoso & Sebastián Robiou Lamarche. Learned a lot, fascinating reads. But the most funny/horrific was learning that even French colonial sources of the time period were like "what the FUCK Spain?". 030
