I wrote about the end of the MAGA makeover, the aesthetic normalization of bigotry, and the mall store selling fascist sweatshirts to teenage girls. New for @theflytrapmedia.com!!

The 'MAGA Makeover' is Over, and Its Replacement is (Even More) Terrifying
Fascists are using fashion to normalize radical perspectives and groups into normie society.

Is it weaponized incompetence or is my husband truly gifted at making espresso, pour over, drip coffee, rice, taking out the trash, setting up utilities, driving?

The number of reminders that we have gotten that there is no school tomorrow is A LOT. Like geez I get it you don't want to see my kids if you don't have to.

The toddler desperately wants to bring a lunch box to school (we don't have one bc she gets free lunch s/o Chicago public schools) so she found an old Bose headphone case and is real excited to put it in The Bin That Is For Lunchboxes

The husband pulled a real dad move with the laundry bc he gave the toddler one of the teen's shirts (that she still wears) bc he decided that it was too small. Meanwhile it looks like the toddler will grow into it in a year.

the toddler's school is having a fundraiser to help send each grade on 4 field trips. This is disincentivizing to me bc I feel like taking a large group of 4 year olds out into the wild FOUR separate times is bad for teacher retention.

I have to write a paper for work, but I can only really write in the middle of the night. I just made myself a 1AM coffee and it's giving me flashbacks to when @astrochris.bsky.social and I wrote a paper over gchat and then my thesis advisor got mad at me for publishing in PASP and having a baby.

If I didn't have a flexible job and my husband wasn't a SAHD, I'm not sure how we'd get the kids to school tomorrow. One needs to be driven (doesn't qualify for the bus) and the other is supposed to take the bus but the company got her schedule wrong and logistics have not yet been fixed.

Back to school with one kid is exciting and bittersweet. Back to school with 2 kids who go to different schools a mile from home in opposite directions with the same start time and one starts today and the other starts tomorrow is a cry for help.

every single anti-abortion leader and organization ultimately supports criminalizing people who have abortions by prosecuting them for homicide. few say it out loud, but they all know it's the end game and none of them have a problem with it.

I don't know how to report this, but a real issue is that communities in the US experiencing multiple extreme weather events in the last six months now also have to deal with concerns about the safety of food donations and food procurement due to stuff like diarrhea lettuce and unsafe jalapenoes

Abdul El-Sayed on capitalism: “I’m capitalist who just knows about capitalism. I have a bad habit of reading, I’m so sorry.”
We’ve spoken about capitalism versus socialism.

Do you want to talk about capitalism? Let’s talk about capitalism. Are you recording? Capitalism is about leveraging the laws of supply and demand to efficiently allocate capital expenditure to maximize value. When capitalism works, it’s because you have free entry and exit into markets. So if you believe in capitalism, you have to believe in government regulation to protect markets. In fact, right now, we have exactly the opposite. You don’t have to be a socialist to believe that you should be taxing billionaires their wealth. In fact, if you are a capitalist, you should believe in that. So, I’m capitalist who just knows about capitalism. I have a bad habit of reading, I’m so sorry.
