#paper! X-rays can resolve #ultrastructure in tissues non-destructively. www.nature.com/articles/s41... Shoutout to key collaborators at @crick.ac.uk and @psich.bsky.social Ana Diaz, @adrianawanner.bsky.social and @andreas-t-schaefer.bsky.social, and to the whole team that made this possible.

Nondestructive X-ray tomography of brain tissue ultrastructure - Nature Methods
Optimizations of X-ray nanotomography including the choice of resin allows high-resolution imaging of mouse brain tissue, approaching the resolution of volume electron microscopy. Since it does not re...

In other news: our Brain Pathology paper is out! We used multiscale #XPCT on human FFPE brain to 3D-image Lewy & Hirano bodies, GvD, NFTs, and β-amyloid aggregates at subcellular resolution, quantifying electron density. doi.org/10.1111/bpa.... @uni-goettingen.de @esrf.fr

Excited to co-author work led by @karlokomorowski.bsky.social: multiscale XPCT of FFPE human heart-forming organoids at isotropic, subcellular resolution – 3D histology w/o sectioning or staining! 🫀 This opens the door for volumetric histology of complex organoid systems. doi.org/10.1038/s420...
Virtual slice (xz-plane) through a tomographic reconstruction obtained from a different HFO sample (HFO Sample 2) and correlation with an H& E-stained histological slice. The magnified views highlight vessel-like structures (purple and yellow circles) and an endodermal cavity (pink and green circles.

Critical point drying of brain tissue for X-ray phase contrast imaging
X-ray phase contrast tomography is emerging as a powerful method for imaging large volumes of brain tissue at sub-cellular resolution. However, current sample preparation methods are largely inherited...
