JJ @jj.mcdonough.rodeo · 05/10/2026Glad we have multi-member districts. It mitigates the worst aspects of plurality elections. It's not as good as STV (multi-member RCV), but definitely much better than single-member plurality. It's something that can maybe get passed in areas that are iffy on RCV. 100
JJ @jj.mcdonough.rodeo · 05/10/2026That picture was actually taken at an event hosted by Elizabeth Burrows. I've met her several times. She's great! Definitely deserves a vote. I think she has a good chance of winning, but obviously anything can happen and nothing is set. She's been doing the work, though. 010
JJ @jj.mcdonough.rodeo · 05/10/2026Should've been light rail instead of BRT. I haven't lived there in a long time, but I infer from your post (and how the RTA is run), that they still don't have an app option like pretty much every other system. 110
JJ @jj.mcdonough.rodeo · 05/10/2026Somewhere, someone with a poor connection needs a site to load. They're getting frustrated and wondering why many sites perform worse now than in 2010, when they got their first smartphone. They don't know or care that some very clever people are making JS do things HTML & CSS can do. 110
JJ @jj.mcdonough.rodeo · 05/10/2026You don't want to have two files to make a button, so you use a framework that adds a bunch of files you as the developer don't have to think about, which inserts JS into an operation that could strictly be handled without it. Solving for dev experience over user experience. 210
JJ @jj.mcdonough.rodeo · 03/10/2026The terminology in How Nations Fail, "Extractive" vs "Inclusive" could be helpful for discourse because "extractive" is more of an umbrella term that includes fascism, despots, etc. 000
JJ @jj.mcdonough.rodeo · 03/10/2026Trump obviously not caring about America as much as Mussolini appeared to care about Italy doesn't change the fact that he's carrying out a fascist project. 220
JJ @jj.mcdonough.rodeo · 03/10/2026Seems like a hair-splitting, useless, and possibly wrong distinction. Fascism uses nationalism, and so tries to increase it to make it a better tool for exploitation. That is certainly happening under Trump. 230

JJ @jj.mcdonough.rodeo · 03/10/2026I heard in Ohio, EVs have a $200 registration surcharge because they don't pay the fuel tax. But then OH just suspended the fuel tax because Trump. But they didn't suspend the EV surcharge. 170
JJ @jj.mcdonough.rodeo · 03/10/2026I haven't seen that one yet, but I was watching The Rookie the other day, and looked him up because I remembered his brother Randy is a total bigot. He's an "independent" who rides on Air Force One with Trump. I turned it off. 000

JJ @jj.mcdonough.rodeo · 01/10/2026I have to run out for now. Maybe I can pick this back up later. In the meantime, there are a lot of trans people and other marginalized people on this site. Read through what they're saying on these topics. Like, read without responding. I get your logic, but there's more to it. 110
JJ @jj.mcdonough.rodeo · 01/10/2026Because it's not just an issue. It's people. The GOP is attacking actual people. Failing to defend people, let alone affirming the pretense that the attack has some kind of basis in reality, shows disinterest (at best) in the people you want support from. 210

JJ @jj.mcdonough.rodeo · 01/10/2026So you don't know what the bus looks like. The sports thing is the tip of a wedge. It's a moral panic about a non-issue, which was made up by fascists. Women and children aren't driving this. The whole point of it is to try to get everyone to agree that some people are less than others. 210
JJ @jj.mcdonough.rodeo · 01/10/2026No. Not sure how you could read the thread and get that impression. Username unfortunately doesn't check out. JJ @jj.mcdonough.rodeo · 30/09/2026Moderation is good. Mods, not so much. The problem is when they have too much power, like on reddit. Moderation is a power that can be—and often is—wielded to ill effect by bad actors. Propagandists and trolls love to be mods. Moderation should be democratized to the greatest extent possible. 020
JJ @jj.mcdonough.rodeo · 30/09/2026Not necessarily a good thing. Reddit subs rely on mods. Little fiefdoms everywhere. Option #1 might get enough of the community feel without the landed gentry. If we want to talk about replacing reddit, let's start with downvotes. 140
JJ @jj.mcdonough.rodeo · 30/09/2026hmm, right. I don't think they do. Looks like they're working with a couple distribution partners that self-publishing authors can use, which should lower the barrier to entry. But they're not competing on that level. 140
